Unfortunately cow's milk isn't intended to replace breastmilk or formula (besides the fact that it is not recommended before 12 mos). There would be likely more than an iron deficiency. Is he established with solids? My son took at least another 4 months beyond your son's age to really become solid with "solids" to the point where he was actually getting meaningful nutrients from solids. I would recommend pumping and just keep trying the breastmilk in the cup. You may want to try a cup that has a soft rubbery straw because that sucking action is more similar to breast sucking than the baby bottles or sippy cups. I say continue with breastmilk because that is really the only food he has taken consistently.... Good luck!

First of all. If it's not causing him any digestive problems then I don't see why not. My pediatrician said it was ok to switch my daughter to cow's milk at 10 months. Second, cow's milk wasn't made for people it was made for cows. If your child is getting a balanced diet of veggies, fruits, meats, and dairy such as yogurt or cheese there really isn't a need for milk. I questioned my pediatrician about how much milk my daughter should have been drinking and that was the answer I was given. If you're not too keen on cow's milk you can try soy milk. My daughter liked that too.

i was told that the cow milk is not good do to the lack of iron in it.... so if this is your childs main sorce of food.. he will definilty have an iron deficientcy i know i migt have spelled that wrong sorry

I would talk with your doctor and see what their opinion is, but my son started drinking regular whole milk when he was 9 months old. I think it depends on the childs growth and development but my kids were not big kids by any means. So I would say talk with your dr. but it is always your decision as a mom so do what you think is best.

He should not have even tasted cows milk until he is 12 months old. It's very dangerous to their immature digestive system.

Be very careful feeding cow's milk to your infant. People were not made to drink milk from cows and your son could develop an allergy or become lactose intolerant. When I had to go back to work I put my son on a soy formula. Using the powder I discovered that the full strength was too much for him and I cut it in half. When I started him on cow's milk at 12 months he got very sick and I had to continue with the soy for another 8 months. Once his digestive system had developed more he was able to digest milk and it did not leave any lasting effect. My son refused the bottle when I had to go to work - once you are out of the house he will take what is offered - no baby will starve when there is food available...he will just have to get used to it. I breastfed him before I left and by the time I returned he was happily on the bottle...too bad for me! Actually I was able to breastfeed him when I was home and he took the bottle when I was at work.

An 8 month old should not drink cows milk. It is reccomended that they have formula milk until 12 months old. This is something to do with there digestion. Try premade formulas as this is thicker than powder and is closer to breast milk.
