My lil boy is almost a year old and refuses food. He just clamps his mouth shut at meal times. He is surviving on breast milk(refuses formula /other milk) and the occassional biscuit and orange juice.

This has been going on for almost a month now and i'm getting really worried. ???

Candice hi, was there any signs of ear infection with your daughter?

I've tried feeding him from my plate, letting him feed himself , almost everything. But he just turns his face away.

He may not want to eat differently than the rest of the family. Try feeding him his food from your plate. I section off my large dinner plate with food for her & food for me and feed her that way. She LOVES it. The food I'm feeding her is also identical to what I'm eating.

i hope he's seen a doctor cuz my daughter went through this and it turned out she had recurrent ear infections. once they cleared, she got her appetite back. although a friend of mine has a little boy who won't eat anything but crackers either, and no ear infection. as long as he's on breast milk at least he's getting nutrition, so you don't have to worry too much.

my soon that time would eat only peanut butter and yougurt, but he went sick during that time with pneumonia. my sec one did the same but he would eat the food that grandmy prepare for him like mashed baby food etc. I guess teething and growing change their appetite too. see what he likes and stick to it.

Thanks all. Ethan is gaining weight. I'm hoping he gets over his not eating phase soon enough. Started him with mango yoghurt today. No luck yet. But he's not getting away that easy. I will keep trying:o)

if hes gaining weight hes fine it hes not gaining weight and not eating food i would suggest you need to switch to formula my daughter is 14 months and will not eat and she needs a high calorie formula as a meal replacement. try mixing formula and breast milk at first since you said he refuses formula. it is safe to starve a baby for up to 48 hours to get them to eat just to let you know providing they are not underweight. offer as many different tastes and textures as you can and a range of finger foods plus pureed/yogurts and custards

He will eat when he gets hungry. Keep offering his favorites, but don't worry! I know that's easier said than done!

My child would not accept any food that she could not put in her OWN mouth at that age. Breast milk is sufficient nutrition, so don't worry about that. Try offering foods he can eat himself. Some of our faves: rice cakes, tiny cheese cubes, frozen peas and corn (still frozen, great if his gums are sore), cheerios-type cereal, freeze dried fruits (in a packet in the baby aisle here in the US), cut up canned fruit or veggies, bananas or well cooked pasta. This, like every other phase, will pass!

What are you trying to feed him. My daughter just turned one and has become very difficult about eating baby food...she will eat any real food that she can get her hands on though. Also Yogurt drink is very popular in our house. It will pass I'm sure but I'd talk to the doctor.

Hey. Is he teething? Maybe he refuses the food because it hurts him when he attempts to chew. This happened with my kids so i had to give them smoother and softer textured foods. Blending all the food together is a good idea. Good luck.

My second baby survived on breastmilk alone until 9 months. She simply was not interested in food at all and I figured she was getting everything she need because she was still growing and gaining weight. He may just be satisfied by the nursing. Do you offer food before or after nursing? Try offering food first then nursing after. Good luck!

I just this weekend read a chapter in the AAP book that said that around 1 yr, kid's eating habits change & a once healthy eater will suddenly refuse foods. Don't stress, keep offering a variety of foods. My son also refused milk at one year, I warmed it & gave it to him from the bottle & slowly transitioned him to cold milk from a sippy cup. It took a week or 2.

could be just a phase - has anything else changed in your daily routine? Generally when their little lives are disrupted in some way their sleeping and eating habits will also change. As long as he is not sick or malnourished I would say he will probably get over it. You may have to be patient and just keep offering him food. Also, try letting someone else give him the food if possible - babies can smell breast milk from a great distance.

talk with your doctor but you could also try the "deceptively delicious" cook book! its all about hiding allt he nutrition your kids need in foods they love...and theyll never know theyre eating it!
