The best is to find out what's causing the eczema (most likely food allergies or sensitivities) Take your child to an allergist (not dermatologist) and get an allergy test, then try eliminating food from the diet. Milk and wheat are the two biggest culprits. To sooth my son's eczema while we were trying to figure it out, we used pure Emu oil. It is supposed to be the closest thing to human oil.

Anything with fragrance is bad. Another thing that really works is using a damp (wrung out as much as possible) footed cotton jammie, and put a dry one over the damp one. It keeps the skin moist for much longer than any lotion or oil out there. My son benefited from this treatment the most.

Eucerin moisturizer helped my daughters (3 years old) legs. And I use it on my youngest (17 months) daughters cheeks and neck... it has helped them both.

I totally agree with Amanda R. Get him checked out for allergies. A friend of mines son was misdiagnosed with a milk allergy for 14 months. He always had this terrible, what they thought was, eczema on his face. When she ended up moving and changing drs they found out that he had this milk allergy. They changed his diet and within a week his eczema cleared up!! It was like a switch was flipped. He was a totally different kid. This seems to be true to most kids who develope eczema at an early age and also one that dosnt clear with treatment.

Try Aquaphor if it works but be consistent in applying it. Also try to check the humidity of your house. I think 50% humidity is good but do check it somewhere else to be sure. I use a humidifier in my son's room to keep the air moist so as his skin. Hope this helps. Good luck =)

After trying everything to clear up my daughters skin, including prescription steriod creams, we found out that she was allergic to the cleaners I was using in our house and to wash our clothes. Both my son and daughter have really bad eczema and I use the Calendula Cream and Diaper Care cream from Weleda. You can find it in most health food stores and even online. Calendula is a flower with anti-itch properties and I use this on their skin but when they have bad outbreaks and the skin isn't healing I use the diaper care cream on it. I know it sounds strange, but the diaper care has zinc oxide in it and heals so fast! It's non-steroidal and works wonders! I found this after my doctor gave me a steroid cream (since cortizone wasn't doing squat for my son's eczema) that had side effects that included "loose or bleeding stools and DEATH". This was from a topical cream and my son was only 18 months old at the time!! Can you believe it? Needless to say, I took things into my own hands and he now sees a homeopathist and I use the natural things. They work even better and I don't have to be panicked about what horrible side effects there might be. I also rub Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Organic Coconut Oil on their skin after a bath before toweling them off... again, natural ingredients and it holds the moisture in their skin SO WELL! Makes it soft and, if I use the coconut oil, they smell super yummy! =) Good luck and prayers for speedy healing for your son!

Arbonne products worked wonders for my friend and her baby. Arbonne is an all botanical and natural Swiss product. They have a special line of baby lotions, and the arbonne diaper cream is what really worked for my friends 1yr old. She had bad eczema on her back and arms, and now they are smooth. You should give it a try. I know you can go to their website. www.arbonne.com and find a local consultant or internet consultant that sells it. It's super easy - and a wonderful product.

healthy naturals baby eczema cream can be found in the baby isle in most grocery stores. it works great with both my 6 year old and my 7 month olds eczema. we put it on each night after thier bath and by morning its totally gone!

hi there my son suffers also and i dont like to always use such harsh creams. I started using flaxseed oil on him instead and its amazing!! Its so gentle yet it works so quickly. Its available from health food stores and hopefully you are able to find it.

I have eczema, and my 4 year old has it too. Luckily it's not very severe, but I do use cream and oinment when it flares up. I use OTC Hydrocortisone, and it usually helps. When it's really red and sore, I use Triamcinilone Ointment, which is an rx. Also, there are corelations to flare ups with allegic reactions (foods, seasons)...perhaps an OTC allergy med may help, or eleminate foods that trigger it, unfortunately for us it's chocolate and strawberries!!! : ( GOOD LUCK!

My baby also has eczema. The doc said it is quite common in babies and it would clear on its own but prescribed oilatum junior bath and oilatum cream. It really works wonders and her skin is much better now and is improving day by day.

I work in dermatology, if you dont have a local dermatologist to go to or you dont feel its that bad yet, then you can use Cetaphil cream. It can be found at local drugstore, wal-mart, Target. Eucerin also has good moisturizers, stay away from the smell good stuff that we all love to put on the little ones, even go to fragrance free detergents etc

My daughter has had eczema since she was 2 months old. Fortunatley she doesn't have an extremely severe case but occasionally it gets to the point where it blisters. Like Annette said, only shampoo the hair and don't wash the body every time. Eucerin works great and A&D ointment works wonders too, my Dr. told me to try that. Also if you can avoid it don't bathe your child everyday. I hated this b/c it was part of her nighttime routine!! Best of luck!!

My son has eczema. When he was a baby his skin started cracking and bleeding it was pretty bad stuff. I was told to stop using dryer sheets because they leave a film on your clothing that will iritate sensitive skin, harsh detergants with strong perfume isn't good, no baby oil or any kind of oils, when bathing do not use soap that can also dry skin, and yes your baby will still be clean. I use shampoo only in hair. I also use an over the counter cream every time he takes a bath and at night. Eucerin for extra dry skin, it looks like criso. I am not big on Doc and this has helped us. He is

My little sister has eczema and has had it she's was born. You need to make sure you use cream not a lotion on them, lotion has alcohol in it, and can make the eczema worse.

My 4 month old son also has really bad eczema on his face. The doctor prescribed him a steroid cream that works miracles. Betamethasone Dipropionate Cream. We also are washing all his baby clothing seperate from ours in Dreft. If you are breast feeding it could be something you are eatting that can trigger a reaction. Best of luck.

My son was diagnosed with eczema at 2 months. You would not be able to tell it now. My Dematologist had us do "Wet Wraps" every night for 4 weeks straight. You bathe your child using luke warm water and Cetaphil liquid soap. Pat dry. Cover entire body (including hair if it is on scalp as well) with Vanicreme Lotion. (my dermatologist recommends the creme that come in a large tub, not the squeeze tube, you can purchase at walgreens) Wait about 5 minutes until that soaks in a bit. Then cover the entire body including head, with petroleum jelly. ( I know this sounds discusting, but it works) THen you wet a 100% cotton footie pj with warm water. put the wet pjs on then cover with dry pjs. My son would wake up completly dry a very smooth skinned! I cried the first couple nights because it seemed like such a horrible thing to do, but it WORKS! I now bathe him once daily with cetaphil and lotion him 2ce daily with Vanicreme. No one knows he has eczema unless I choose to tell them!

Hello I have done all of this also, I took mine to an allergist and found out it wasn't all just eczema, it was other allerigies he was suffereing from that was causing his eczema to be worse. My advice is find an allergist and have him allergy tested, they gave my son a perscription and his clearned up in less than a week and it was wonderful. I can't remember what it was called since I have no longer had to use it since we got it when he was 3months old. He is now 8months old and hasn't had any flair ups unless he is out in the sun and it gets worse, but as soon as we bring him back in the house it goes away. good luck and if you need to exact time of the prescription I can look it up for you.
