Could be days, could be weeks. With my 1st girl I was 3 cm dilated and lost my mucus plug at 36 weeks, didn't have her until 43 weeks - with my 2nd girl I was 2 cm dilated and lost my mucus plug at 37 weeks, didn't have her until 41 weeks. Unfortunately, despite what you may try (sex, relaxing, walking, spicy food, etc) your baby will come when they decide to show up :)

I am a midwife and a mother. Some women are dilated for weeks before they give girth. The increase of mucous occurs towards the end of pregnancy. "FULL TERM" is between 37-42 weeks. Some women don't lose a plug, but still go into labour at their own time. It sounds like birth is just around the corner for you! Goodluck!

A few weeks before having my planned c-section I lost what I thought was my mucus plug...I was curious about what it looked like exactly, so I researched it on the net, I found this pic, it's pretty gross, but if you still wanna know...

I lost my mucous plug almost 2 months before I went into labour. Although it is essential for keeping bacteria out the Dr said it was not uncommon for this to happen. I too was eventually enduced. If you feel that your water has broke...get medical attention as soon as possible. Again it has been known to take a few hours even after this for labour to start but better to be sure. If you have no bloody show or "pains" just take it day by day and try to relax as much as possible. You're baby knows when it's time to make it's entrance into the world.

I went into labor about 2 weeks after I lost my mucus plug. I was also 4cm diliated and 90% effaced for about 4 weeks until I went into labor. It really just depends. I remember when it happed I read all my books and called other moms in hopes it was happening soon! Good Luck....your baby will be here before you know it!

you could still be in for a few more weeks... i never lost my mucus plug and was dilated 2cm for 2 weeks... then finally the week before my due date i was 3cm 50 effaced and scheduled for an induction (and that was my most recent pregnancy)... everyone's different... but good luck and stay busy... the less you think about it the quicker things will happen
At 1cm you don't usually lose your mucus plug. Before that happens you will have light contractions. Mucus plug usually begins to come out when you are about 2 and 4 cm, once the mucus plug come out the labor pains will become slightly more intense. But if this is your first baby I suggest you contact your OB and discuss your concerns with him/her because every first birth is different. With my first I dilated 1cm and was like that for 1 month when I finally went into labor it took 2 days for her to arrive but with my other 4 children it went pretty quick. Believe me you will know when your in labor. But like I said if it's your first don't take any chances because every body is different. God Bless You!

Ugh i hate to be the bearer of bad news but with my first I lost my mucus plug 4 weeks before being induced! I was also 1 cm dilated for those wonderful 4 weeks!! If it's not your first chances are you could go sooner! I'm currently pregnant with #2 due March 3, but I've already lost my mucus plug and dilated 2 cm already! Hoping to start labor soon!! GOOD LUCK!!

at 36 weeks I was 2 cm dilated
at 38 weeks my water broke, but labor didnt progress at all so I had to be induced 16 hours later and then I lost my mucus plug
everyone is different, I'd call your doctor tho and see what they think...

theres really no way to tell. My step son's mother went for a prenantal check up when she was 33 weeks prego and the doc said everything looked great no dilation or anything like that... well her water broke 5 hrs later and her son was born the next morning at 5am.
my sister lost her "mucus plug" 2 weeks before she was induced for labor, never even had any sign of labor after losing it. I never lost mine that I knew of, I was induced also.
Another friend of mine lost her mucus plug but didn't go into labor for about 3 weeks but was in labor for almost 48 hrs and had to have c-section. so it all depends. There is no definite answer. But it shouldn't be too much longer maybe til your due date at the most. Your doctor can induce up to a week earlier, if you are really uncomfortable.
Babies come when they come! I never lost my mucus plug til I was in the labor room. I have seen moms walk around 2cm dilated for a week, and moms who don't start to dilate until hours after their water breaks. My water never did break, it just developed a very very slow leak & they had to break it at the hospital. If your water leaks OR breaks, call your doctor, don't wait. You could go a couple of hours, or a couple of weeks. It just doesn't pay to try and make predictions, after all these years, doctors still suck at it! Be ready to go, though. I know you're ready to have this baby, but still, cherish this last little time being pregnant, especially if this is your first. Things will never be like they are now again! Good luck for a happy, healthy delivery :) PS Get some sleep now while you still can!!
