Try not to offer anything sweet until he is used to eating veggies, meat can wait for awhile as he is getting protein from formula. If you start with the sweetest veggies, that is what he is going to prefer and you will end up giving in to it. Have plain potatoes mashed ( no seasoning, cooked carrots mashed, and even peas mashed. If he likes cereal as a solid, add some in. I always offered the solid first, then let mine fill up with milk afterwards. if you offer the bottle, he will not be intereted in the solids. i agree with Heather's comments. Sweets should be rare and after the nutritious poortion of the meal. I like to think ahead. How do you want him eating 2 or 6 years from now? Be consistent. So many parents start something they don't want to continue. Decide what kind of eating habits you want to foster in your child and keep at them. Good luck!

My little girl is 8 months and she is mostly eating what we eat now, with the exception of when we have something not healthy. I wouldnt be giving him anythign sweet until he eats his healthy thigns first. But we started our daughter on the following at 6 months:
For breakfast she usually has:
farex, weet bix, toast, pancakes or scrambled eggs
Lunch is fruit, or fruit and yoghurt:
kiwi fruit, water melon, rock melon, peaches, strawberries, apples, pears, banana, nectrines, oranges, mangos and avacados.
Dinner veg include:
sweet potato, potatoe, pumpkin, squash, beans, peas, spinach, broccoli, cauilflower, chokos, zucchini and carrots.
I only puree (magic bullet) apples and pears as she doesnt like them cooked. The rest I just mash with either a fork or potato masher.
But now that she is eating our food she has, chicken fettuccine, apricot chicken, roast with roast veg, pork on the bbq, lamb loin chops and veg, meatloaf, spag bowl, rissoles basically whatever we are having for dinner. I dont puree her meat just hand it to her and she feeds herself. Babies have one of the best gag reflexes so generally if they swallow something too big they will bring it back up quite easily. Also for snacks if she is hungry through the day, i give her biscuits, yoghurt, toast or custard. A lot of the fruits and vegetables i give to her to fed herself as with the meats. As for seasoning, i use a little bit of salt, and butter on things like potato and pumpkin.

You can also try applesauce. Esp. just plain applesauce, no cinnamon. The apples should be sweet enough and neutral enough to go with just about any veggie. I have made my own baby food for the last 4 children, so I'm not sure what flavors of store bought baby food they have these days. Tomatoes are also naturally sweet, so spaghetti or something with a tomato sauce would be a good way to "hide"other not-so-sweet veggies.

Hi Fatima, I would recommend not giving him anything sweet until he has eaten a vegetable. Introduce one vegetable at a time. For example give him carrots everyday for a few days. After each spoonful of carrots, give him a spoonful of a fruit he already knows and likes. After you've introduced a few vegetables, try a meat. My son liked his chicken mixed with a little applesauce. Feed him the spoonful of vege first then the spoonful of fruit mixed with a little bit of meat. If he's not eating enough food, cut back a little on his formula during the day and see if that helps increase his appetite for food. Hope this helps! It's been a while since mine were that young.

Maybe you could mash carrots up in mashed potatoes. Sweet potatoes would work well. I think most children like sweet potatoes.
