for the past couple months and no doctor can seem to figure it out. There is a possibility of 3 different things which all have the same exact symptoms. The possibilities are GERD, food allergy and reaction to a hernia which she does have but we were told it is not a serious case. Any tips, suggestions, similar experiences?

*UPDATE*

My daughter will be 17 months old in a couple of weeks and we have been to several doctors and have a scheduled appointment with a gastrointestinal specialist. Unfortunately, the specialist cannot see her until Sept. 24th. This has been an issue for over 2 months already. We've also tried the ER.

Also she had absolutely NO health issues up to this point. We weened her off of the same formula we started her on. She had no problem transitioning to milk. Has never shown a sensitivity to any foods. She has always been an incredibly healthy baby aside from the hernia (which we have been keeping a close watch on) and being a little below average in weight but still on the charts (which tends to be the case with children throughout my family). Although since this issue has started she has fallen off the charts and continually fluctuates in her weight.

Currently, we are looking into possible lead poisoning as well. We moved into a new place just before her 1st birthday, which is when they test the lead levels in the blood. The new apartment we moved into is a VERY old building so the possibilty of lead contamination is definitely there. However, my family has known a long line of our landlord's family and I assumed he would tell us had there been cause for concern. Now we have lived here for about 4 months and the illness has lasted for almost 3 months now.

*UPDATE #2*

We took her to yet another hospital, which has the highest pediatrics rating in our area and she was admitted tonight. I'm home to pick up some essentials and headed back to the hospital. Hopefully we'll find something out soon.

I agree with all these people. You're your child's best advocate. If the doctor isn't being helpful, go to the next one, and the next one, and the next one til you get an answer! Your baby's esophagus and teeth are gonna be raw soon- I am so sorry. My best advice to you is to keep pushing til you find someone who can give you an answer.

In the mean time, why not try an allergist. Ask the allergist to make sure and take blood samples and check for lead. The problem with taking blood is they have a hard time searching for possible threats unless they look specifically. I hope that makes sense. I don't mean to scare you, really I don't, I just know as a mom, I would be really concerned, which I am sure you are. Yes I know a hernia can make you throw up, but you would think the doctors would have figured that out. I was watching an episode of TLC's mystery diagnosis, and there was a baby on there that was throwing up a lot and it ended up being her body was producing some sort of enzyme that was required to digest everything properly. You might want to research this. I am not sure what area you live in, but if there is a Children's Hospital around I would definitely make the drive to see them. Waiting until 9/24 is ridiculous. I wish you luck, and god bless. Please keep us updated on her progess.

I suggest you go see a gastrointestinal specialist. There is a reason she is throwing up. This can be very dangerous. Please seek medical advice....Remember YOU are your child's only advocate, not the doctors, teacher, etc. YOU!!! Good luck and God bless.

My son has GERD and for the entire first year of his life I argued with his doctors. I tried 4 different meds, 3 different formulas, he saw 2 specialist, had an upper GI and was put under for a scope down his throat and all I got was more vomiting. Nothing they did every helped. He threw up every thing that went in his mouth the entire first year. He didnt' grow out of it until he was about 14 months old. It was constant vomiting, all day and could easly shoot out a couple feet. They said as long as he continued to gain weight he was okay. All i can say is hang in there it's rough but they will grow out of it. If you need any advice I would love to help!

my daughter also throws up a lot. She did a 24 hour PH probe test and had a scope. At first the diagnosis was eisophelic epophagitis then after switching doctors, found out that she has abdominal migraines. Usually it worsens just before puberty then they outgrow it. Adults typically get migraines in head and some children get them in stomach.

Not sure how old your daughter is, so I don't know if this is going to help at all, but when my son was still on formula, he also threw up alot. We had to put him on soy and it all stopped. When it came time for him to be able to drink milk, we were able to switch to normal milk without a problem. Hope you figure it out, good luck = )

Well, I personally haven't had that problem, but a very good friend of mine at work has and she has been thru all of that. They tested her baby for GERD and everything and it all came back fine. She had to change her formula's SEVERAL times. I don't know how old your child is, but in this case she just tried giving her cold milk, instead of heating it and it worked like a charm! Hope this helps.
