hi there Christina, sorry to hear about your little girl, my eldest daughter battled with runny tummy as a baby the best advise I was given was by a midwife, she told me to use bum cream with zinc in it and then dust baby's bum with cornflour, it helps drawer the redness out also it helps to give a probiotic, if you ask your chemist you can get a really good one over the counter i dont know if you know reuteri drops....works like a dream.  Hang in there honey!

yep..the good old baby powder with corn starch in it is amazing. dry her bottom, put a thick layer of desitin or butt paste and then apply the cornstarch. when you change her don't wipe the mixture all the way off, leave a thin layer and then do it again. It always seems to work well.

Quoting Denise:

4 things

1. AIR
2. Plain Water when changing no rubbing.
3. Light (sunlight that is a little at a time as to not burn the tucas)
4. My homemade mixture for butt cream. Get the triple antibiotic diaper cream at target or Walmart. Mix it with a little bit of Monistat 7 day cream and rub on. Then cake it on with corn starch. (not baby powder unless it is like an all natural corn starch one.)

Oh and change baby's diaper all the time more than usual.

Now you need to figure out why she is having the diarrhea so you can stop the source of the problem. Food allergy maybe or illness?

I said triple antibiotic diaper cream but what I meant was:

triple antibiotic cream and triple paste (which they use when other treatments don't work, I found mine at target) and the monistat.  This is pretty much the same treatment as the yeast cream for babies that they advertisse on tv now.  These things are in it.

I hear good things about butt paste, but try A & D Ointment. Three weeks is a long time to have diarrhea. You should go to the dr. I hope she gets better soon!

How bad is her rash?  When my twins were 3 months and still in the NICU (they were 11 weeks early) they had a severe diarhea and diaper rash for over 2 weeks.  The doctors tried all the creams, air dryin etc.  The rash was so bad it was bleeding.  They finally called a wound specialist who recommended Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film.  It covers the wound with a thin film to protect their bottoms.  (Just be careful when spraying to make sure it doesn't accidentally go to the nose or mouth).  On top of that they used a mixture of equal parts Desitin, A&D and Dubicaine Ointment 1%.  After a day the bleeding stopped and was finally healing.  We also took them off breastmilk and tried a couple different formulas until they found something that did not cause diarhea.  Please check with her doctor before trying the Cavilon and Dubicaine.  You might need a prescription.  Good Luck!

this might sound strange, but it was recommended by a pediatrician and it worked great. mix mylanta and cornstarch and apply the paste. works wonders.

Try using a thin coat of vaseline before applying butt paste, it helps make it an easy clean up between diaper changes.

I've found that Butt Paste works really well, as well as Burt Bee's diaper ointment. If the rash doesn't go away, or looks bumpy or spotted, it may be a yeast infection, and would require a prescription ointment to cure it.

Butt Paste is a wonderful new cream. Cleared my daughters rash in 2days. Air dry as much as possible also.

We have now seen three different Doctors about the diarhhea. They have run 2 rotovirus tests, both negative. They have run one c-diff test, also negative. The last doctor we saw was an ER doc. He had me use hydrocortizone for the rash until we could fill a script. He is running another c-diff test, and testing for parasites. We are still waiting for the results.

I use A&D too on both my girls 3and 1. The both have very sensitive skin and I can't use any kind of regular diaper rash creams. Works great. She's had this for three weeks? has she been eating or drinking anything to make her have that for this long.. if not she should be checked.

Poor baby! My daughter had a bad diaper rash a week or so ago and I was at wits end trying to help her too. So...I called my mom. Now just like everyone says, make sure the baby gets aired out several times a day - put her on a waterproof pad and keep an eye on her. If she's mobile put her in a playpen with the pad underneath. Don't put diaper rash cream on it! That stuff is great but it doesn't allow skin to heal. Before putting her diaper back on, put a thin layer of A&D ointment on the area. Make sure she stays completely dry most the time you can...more diaper changes, etc, etc. Hope the poopy problem cleared, poor thing. Not sure if I helped, but it sure cleared up my daughter's problem in two-three days.

I am sure hoping that your daughter's stomach is feeling better and the  rash is just lingering.  That being said, there is diaper rash cream that comes in a jar, it's not a prescription but it is behind the pharmacy counter. It's called Dr Smith's Diaper Ointment.  It worked for me.

I just looked it up at walgreens just to make sure (my baby is 10 years old) and it is still out ther by the way.

My daughter (also 1) just went through this. At first I had tried pure Vitamin E Oil on her as that had worked previously for us but it didn't work this time. What worked for us this time was alternating between Sudocream and Zinofax. I also let her nap in her crib without a diaper. I was prepared for the mess it could make but I also knew that air on her bum would help. I took all of her dolls, etc. out of her bed and just used old blankets and sheets. It didn't make a huge mess like I thought it would and the air did wonders for her bum.

I hope it gets better soon!

Resinol is great - find it behind the counter at the drug store. If that does not help, try desitin and maalox - really - mix them both in your hand or on your fingers and slather away. If after a day or two this does not help - seek medical advice and you may be prescribed a antifungal cream. I also find that fruits - except bananas - cause my daughter to have diaper rashes. Hold off on those for a few days including fruit juices.

Plain old Corn Starch works the best for me! Wipe her off with a warm wet cloth, pat her dry & dust on some corn starch. It's amazing how well it works!

My daughter had allergic reactions to most of the common things used for diaper rash. The only thing we found that worked was Bag Balm. It comes in a green square tin and can be found in the pet aisle at Wal-Mart. Great stuff and works well on small scrapes too.

I have found that alternating between a diaper rash cream and a hydrocortisone lotion at every diaper change has helped to clear things up.  Also, bathe her daily, wash the area with a gentle baby soap, and let her air dry.

I've also heard Butt paste is good. Also, check with the pediatrician, sometimes those rashes can turn into yeast infections and will clear up best if treated with a prescription.

Air drying is the best thing provided you can put her in a place where she won't pee on anything. Once dry, try some Aquaphor. You can get it pretty much anywhere. I think it's marketed as a burn cream, but it workd wonders for my son who has frequest diarreah from all the antibiotics he's taken (but that's a whole different post!). Slather it on thick - good luck.
