I wouldn't worry about it too much yet. It might just be she's so over excited about talking and rushing to get her words out that's causing the lisp. My son and daughter did the same thing when they were around that age. They didn't need speech therapy for it but got it anyway for other things when they were 3 & 4 but by then their lisps were gone. My son now instead of lisping stutters when he gets over excited, it's like listening to a broken record. He'll repeat one word until we tell him to calm down and talk slower. His speech therapist said for him it's the right way because it doesn't have to do with his speech so much as him being over excited. He got tubes put in his ears this past November so since his hearing has improved his speech has gotten much better and he's just all around excited everyone can understand what he says. =)

I don't know for sure, but my son had a lisp when he was 2. We ignored it and he lost it fairly quickly. He is now 22 and I had forgotten that he used to lisp until I read this. By the way, he also talked a lot.

I don't know about the USa but in Australia speech paths tend not to see kids until they are around 3 for things like lisps as the as the speech training works better after the age of 3. It tends to work quicker. It has to do with the different stages of brain development. I would go and see your Dr through and just check that she isn't tongue tried or has any mouth deformerty that can effect speech. My God son just got his tongue snipped (tongue tried) and his tonsils out and gromits put in. All of these things can course speech problems. Good luck.

Lisps are generally not something that goes away without speech training. I would ask your pediatrician, but the longer she speaks with the lisp the harder it is to train them not to lisp. They can refer you to a speech therapist abd depending where you live there may be educational programs that do not cost as much.
