My daughter is just about 6 months, should I be giving her liquid vitamins?

If she's breast fed or baby formula, it has all kinds of vitamins in them and i wouldn't give the baby extra liquid vitamins. i have 5 children and i know what i'm talking about. thanks.

Since I breastfeed, my doctor told me to give my daughter vitamin D drops since she was 3 months old. She also told ME to take fish oil and vitamin D pills. There have been studies showing that kids are vitamin D defficient. Of course ask your MD. Mine is into holistic meds and preventive medicine, which I like.

If she is on formula she should not need any extra vitamins. Only breastfeeding mothers may be recommended to give a vitamin d supplement. Formula comes with all the vitmains in it so you don't need to worry. Once she is off formula check into it again.

My daughter started taking her vitamin when she began drinking whole milk, no formula. That's what my pediatrician recommended. Your pediatrician should let you know what to do.

I agree with asking your doctor, but I will add that 2 doctors in the same practice gave me different advice about this.  I did not end up giving my daughter vitamins and don't plan to until she is 2.  On the fluoride note, just an FYI, my husband was just told recently that he has fluorosis which is basically from too much fluoride as a kid and it has eaten away at the enamel on his teeth.  If you just be sure to offer tap water (I used filtered) rather than bottled water, that should be sufficient for getting the fluoride.

My understanding is that it is generally inadvisable to give any supplements to children under two years old unless your doctor has told you differently. Like Shelly, I would encourage you to speak with your child's pediatrician. You certainly don't want to give her anything that may cause her harm.

Joanne,

You need to talk to her doctor about this.  I don't believe in giving babys vitamins if they don't need it.  Is she a good eater, and gaining wieght?  If so there should be no reason to give her vitimins...And yu realy don't want to if you are breast feeding because she will get to much iron and then that can cause a whole host of problems...Talk to the Dr..Good luck
