My son was sick this past week also.  I used Folex from Lowe's to get rid of the stain and Febreze Fabric Refresher Antimicrobal to get rid of the smell. I hope your little one feels better soon!!

I was glad to see Angela's post. I use PetZyme all the time. Between the carpet outside the litter box to the hairballs on the carpet to the laundry in the liquid bleach dispenser when my daughter has had an accident in her sleep to the carpet where my son has whipped off his diaper to pee on the floor because he thinks it's funny. I used it on a difficult to remove stain in the bathtub not too long ago. Actually, come to think of it, I use that and vinegar more often than any other cleaning products because it's what I notice works. It's crazy and it makes me giggle that my all purpose cleaner comes from petsmart.

OK I agree with the Folex you can also find it at Wal-mart, but once it is dry put some baking soda on it wait 4 hours and then vacuum it up it will take away the smell

I swear by a spot and odor remover from petco...it's called "Nature's Miracle". I use it on potty training accidents and vomit. It's amazing!

When I worked in hospital systems the Hazmat crew recommended Pet Zyme from PetsMart. It is an enzyme cleaner and a diluted version of what they use to clean up accident sites.  Shake the bottle before using. Pour onto the spot. Place a plastic bag over the spot and check to make sure it stays damp. This means that the enzyme is working. Continue to keep it damp for at least 24 hours. The enzymes actually eat the proteins, makes them disappear.

Febreeze works differently. It is an "odor encapsulator". This is a coating of starches that surround the odor molecules thereby keeping the smell out of the air. The problem is that when this starchy capsule gets wet it releases the order into the air. The means it is not a good long term solution.

Hope this helps.

Before you clean up the vomit try loading it with salt. That will get all the liquid out of the carpet and should take away the smell too. I also use fabreze fabric freshner on the carpets after incidence like yours.

Hope she feels better soon.

Glad to see Alice's suggestion. I was thinking gasoline and a match. . . there is nothing worse than that smell! We had kids sick in the car about a week ago, you wouldn't believe the mess.
