Your MIL is nuts, to try to give laxatives to a 2-month old. Jaysus -- that could have REALLY harmed your kid!

Pure apple juice is a natural laxative that is recommended for babies if they are constipated by the health visitors. If your son goes 5 days and this is normal for him then that is fine, it is very rare for a baby not to poop at least twice a day.
Giving a baby laxatives is not a good idea! Did you tell your mother in law that your baby only poops every 5 days? She probably thought she was helping. Although she went a little to far.
Sit down and tell her straight that she does not give your child anything that will upset him without your permission ever. I am sure she is feeling stupid when she thinks about what she could of done.

Your mom (or is it MIL) is and I would never leave my baby in her care (or even unsupervised presence) again.

Yikes. You might want to strike her off your "overnight babysitter" list until your son is older. I didn't like to leave my son with my parents-in-law until he was 9 months old or so, just because I didn't trust that they wouldn't feed him candy and other inappropriate things. Now that he's 2, they are AWESOME babysitters. Now I don't freak out if they give him a cookie, and they're really good with him.
