My six year old is getting acne.

It's not terrible but it's there. She has bumps at the bridge of her nose and on both cheeks. When we noticed it the bumps on her cheeks were actually pimples. They have popped but there are more coming up. It's not the smooth skin you would see on a six year old. About the same time she started getting some bumps on her scalp at the back of her head and around both ears. I started using a tea tree shampoo and they have gone away. We are washing her face every night. Any thoughts?

Yikes. Sorry about the chicken pox. I thought about it being clogged pores. But she's still so young. I am worried it is only going to get worse through the years. I don't want her to be scarred. I was very tempted to pop the ones she had but she would not let me. I know your not suppose to pop them but it's so tempting. I will probably take her to the doctor just to see what they have to say. Thanks for all of the thoughts.

My 6YO has the same thing. She gets them on her upper arms as well. Once there was one that was so big that I couldn't resist trying to pop it. A hard mass came out and then the "bump" went away. I'm sure that what I did was not the most recommended. I haven't done it again for fear that she might scar. I have not taken her to the doctor as it's not serious enough to warrant a visit. If it gets worse I will, but for now I just leave them alone. If its not bothering her, I shouldn't let it bother me.

I would go to a doctor to shed some light on it. you could be making things worse by washing her face every day. might also be useful to try some baby rash cream on the worse parts before she goes to bed, and make sure she stays away from oily foods for a while.

hope this helped a little!

COuld it be an allergic reaction. They have a tendency to come out of no where. Could try reducing her intake of the two big allergins and see if it gets better. Dairy and wheat products.

From someone who has suffered with severe acne since the first year of high school (I am now 28 & still suffer and have scarring) I tried many things, even went to a specialist. The best product around is ProActive, available from Guthy-Renker (TV infomercial) it's a gentle exfoliator, toner and cleanser. I'm not sure about what age you can start using this, maybe you could call them and ask. If it is too early, atleast write the info down & keep it somewhere safe for future use, trust me, she does not want to put up with acne all her life, it is horrible. The reason I am still suffering with breakouts at the moment is because you are not supposed to use anything for acne while pregnant and my skin flared up while pregnant. Another effective treatment (this is only for if she still has problems in her teens or later) is diamond dermabrasion, this helps with acne breakouts & acne scarring.

I saw my 2 1/2 yr.old had that the other day, turned out it was chicken pox!! LOL

But seriously...

Because shes had skin where every now and then "pimple" looking bumps pop up.I got told it was just clogged pores.
