I agree, my son lost his Nan to cancer a month before he turned 3 and I explained everything to him. He knew she was sick and what she had, so when she passed I told him she had gone up to the sky to live because the doctors couldn't fix her, but she'll always be around him and that he could talk to her whenever he wanted. He is now 10 and still asks me about her as he dosn't remember her. If your son hasn't already got one give him a special photo of his dad in a frame so he can look at it whwnever he wants. Goodluck

He doesn't need to know the bad stuff at 3, tell him as he gets older, as he's able to understand. Talk to a psychologist to help with how exactly. But for now, Daddy didn't want to go, he loved you very much and he's watching over you. Hope your situation for you and your son is safe and you find happiness. Make and teach your boy how to make better choices, so neither of you will find yourselves in a similar situation as his Dad. Life is about the choices we make and our willingness to accept responsibility for their consequences. The quality of your life depends on you, based on those choices.

What I would do is gently explain it in an age-appropriate manner with just enough detail to satisfy his questions without overloading him with information.

You should be as honest as you can, as he will remember your answer like you a god, he only seems little but its a big question, the answer that you give him will come up over and over again once you have given it to reassure his little mind he has it right...
