Dove, i am the same, my kids father is hispanic, and my kids tend to tan easily... I SLATHER them in SPF 50, for sun protection , and reapply OFTEN.... maybe even more than necessary... but my oldest daughter has his skin and will be as brown as a June beetle regardless... I just know that is her skin, and as long as I am keeping them SLATHERED I am doing my job... They are in the swim team in the summer, and go to swim meets every monday... these meets are from 4-10pm I put sunscreen on them at 3:30 and again every time the get out of the water, and they stay under their tent when they are not in the water.

My kids tan very easily. I just put good sun screen on them. They have more of their father's pigment (I don't tan and avoid the sun like the plague). I just do my best to prevent burns on them.

you can not lighten a childs skin other than using ADEQUATE amount of sun screen. I heard on Dr. OZ that most people are not applying enough sunscreen. You need to apply ALOT of sunscreen and re-apply ever 4 hours.... I can't believe that you would put that much emphasis on your child's skin color

How old is he? You can't protect them from getting a little sun, and if he is using sun protection regularly (you should be reapplying at LEAST every 4 hours), then there is little else you can do. Try to ensure he is in the shade/out of the sun during the hottest part of the day. Other than that, you can't just lighten his skin.

Stop letting him go out in the sun so much. Or use sun protection. Common sense really.
