If you don't have an actually potty for him to sit on (like a training potty), GET ONE!

We had one at my mother's house while hubby was deployed and my son would poop fine on it. When we moved back out here when hubby came back, we just got an insert for the big potty. We thought that since he had pooped so well on the little potty, he could start using the bigger potty with an insert (he's 2 years old).

When our son had his last checkup last week, the doctor actually encouraged us to get a small training potty again. He said that young kids that are learning how to go on the toilet can't generate enough pressure to poop while sitting on a big potty since their feet can't touch the floor (so they can't plant their feet). That explains why, when my son tells us he has to poop and we take him to the potty, that he can't go. Instead, about 5 minutes after he gets off the potty from not being able to go, he goes in his Pull-Up.

I would invest in a training potty.. And remember to always encourage your LO. Don't get mad if they don't make it to the potty or if they went after getting off the potty. It takes time. He'll get it soon enough.

Our daughter didn't like to poop in the toilet and we never pressed the issue as we didn't want to embarress her. Instead, we'd just say, Oops, had an accident, next time we need to go poop in the potty. We also had to remind her constantly that EVERYONE poops. I think there is an actual book about called Everyone Poops. Children are also fascinated by bodily functions so as disgusting as this sounds, we would take her into the bathroom with us when we had to and explain to her that mommy or daddy had to poop. Sometimes I'll catch her with that look on her face and I just tell her to get in the bathroom and poop and she does and then she has to tell me she had a "Moose Poop" or a "Baby Poop."

I told my son that he had to make a choice. He could make a good choice and go in the potty or he could make a bad choice and poop and his pants, but if he pooped in his pants he had to cleanit out mommy was not cleaning it own anymore. I had no problems after that.

when he goes to hide scoop him up real fast and get him on the potty. Plenty of kids are scared of the first poop in the potty (no clue why) but once they do it, they normally catch on real fast and have no issues ever again.
