My doctor told me to use 1% hydrocortizone twice a day (usually when he gets up and around for the day and when we are getting ready for bed) and it clears it right up! Also keeping your child cool helps to control the eczema from getting out of control.

The BEST EVER cream I came across is only purchase online see for yourself www.freederm.com

I have tried this and it works even on babies as I mum I trust this cream rather than nothing sold elsewhere.

Good luck

If you can order it online goat milk soap is great and natural for skin. It restores you ph balance which is ruined when using harsh store bought soaps.

My son had it but it was always caused when he wore jeans and it was from the nickel in button from the jeans. I started using clear nail polish on the button and it worked until he outgrew it.

Yes, try eucerine cream. It's sold over the counter at most pharmacys. I use it for my son and when he was a baby and it really works. It's for dry skin but I found it to be really effective. Try it on rash also. Great product. Marie

my daughter had eczema so bad that they later determined it was a skin abnormality. She would flare up so bad that she would look like a burn victim. the only thing i found that worked was buying eucerine cream and going to the health food store and buying lavender oil and mixing it with the lotion. If you havent gone to the allerigist yet i would recommend that as well because a lot of eczema is caused by allergies to either food or environment. Mattress covers, the ones that zip are a must as well as for the pillow. going to the allergist gave us answers but no relief. My daughter was on at least 20 different medications and not a single one worked. The doc said she would grow out of it and we thought there was no way, she is almost six and has beautiful skin! any thing with fragrance in it is bad too, soap, lotion, laundry soap. fragrance free is the key.

Use a cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle when washing clothes (balances the PH) and try food grade coconut oil (health food store) on the skin. Good luck :)

I have eczema and so does my son. I have used Cetaphil and Eucerin creams. They work the best Only use cortizone cream for real bad breakouts and only for a few days. It will bleach the skin if used for a prolonged period of time. Also, wash your child's clothes in All free and clear. It is the bestI have found. Also, be careful what you bath him in. Any soap with perfume will cause breakouts. Use Aveno or Dove soap. Hope this helps!

Aveeno Baby works WONDERS, for both my son and my best friends baby who had it bad! Cleared it up and never came back! Aveeno cleanses with out using actual soap, soap and perfumes dry out a baby's skin, and makes it worse, and need to use lotion!

mylocort ointment. Don't apply too thick, but it has hydrocortisone in which is considered "safe". It really works well. Even my husband had it on his face - so bad that he was originally diagnosed with Lupus! After Mylocort.... it has disappeared. To maintain the Eczema, rub his body with Epi-Max cream after his bath. Promise this helps!

Hydrocortisone cream with antibiotic ointment, Not so hot baths and no more than once a day.

Beleive him if he says the water burns it's the sensation of his skin loosening in the water. Bath and body works "shea butter lotion" it's extra heavy and works well if he's not extra sensative to lotions if he is "cetaphyl" light and hypoallergenic

my son also has had eczema I use all free & clear detergent and fabric softner and do not mix anyone elses stuff with his whil washing I never use bleach it irritates the skin more. I buy the dove body wash or the generic that has no perfume or dyes and baby shampoo. these help to keep him from being itchy. when your drying them off after the shower don't rub just pat dry. Right after his shower he uses Aveeno lotion or cream you can also find that in generic at Wal-mart. There is also a really thick over the counter cream for babies with eczema that helps its in a green tube I also found it at Wal-mart. I hope this helps. Aveeno also has an oatmeal bath mix that will help soothe him when its really bad and never clean open scratches with peroxide it will dry it out even more making it more itchy.

It is almost always an allergy!!! My friends son had terrible eczema and she had been to 5 doctors who were only treating the symptoms (which did not help). She had pretty much given up when I asked her about her sons rash. After a long conversation I suggested taking him off cows milk (he drank a lot each day), to my surprise, it worked wonderfully!!!! Now if he accidentally gets milk he will break out into a rash. I would say to try and remove milk from his diet first , if it doesn't help, it could be a number of things( next common would be eggs). You really need to find the cause instead of trying to treat the symptoms. Another thing you need to do is give him a teaspoon of applecider vinegar before meals. Low stomach acid can cause eczema to be more severe! I understand it is hard to do, but it will be worth it! I just remembered that I have another friend whose baby spent most of his time scratching himself on the floor due to food allergies! After eliminating a lot of foods from his diet she found that he is allergic to flour and nuts. He has the smoothest skin now!! Your son will feel so much better if you can figure out the cause to his eczema. Best of luck and God Bless!!

my son has eczema too, but i use Childrens cetirizine (it is a off brand to zyrtec) and it won't make him sleepy. or if he is having trouble at night to sleep i would give him some childrens benadryl. i also use aveeno lotion to keep his skin moisturized. If you have any questons feel free to ask.

My oldest has Escema. I find it helpful Not to use a variety of things. Certain Sunscreens,Soaps,Carpet Deoderizers,Chlorine in pools, all seem to make the rashes worse.

Over the counter Eucerin works well(the thick Crisco kind, not the lotion). She also finds the steroid ointment the dr. prescribes her very helpful.

My daughter has horrible eczema and psoriasis, i use cetaphil skin cleanser instead of soap and their moisturizer right when she gets out of the bath. Also sensitive laundry detergent and little to no fabric softener help along with cooler baths (hot water can cause flare ups) if you can afford it a trip to a dermatologist to get a prescription can really help (I use .05% Desonide lotion) for my daughter, honestly its almost a cure flare ups are not nearly as bad as they once were, hope this helps!

use fragrance free detergent (ALL free and clear is usually pretty cheap. moreso than Dreft) Also, the trick is to just keep the skin hydrated. I personally use baby oil after bath/shower. Let kiddo soak in the tub for 10 minutes, no more cuz then they lose moisture adn then put some baby oil on. Also, between bathings, you could just spot-treat with Eucerin Cream, it comes in a tub. The generic brand at WalMart works just as well and is half the price! These are ways to prevent and treat. I've had eczema my whole life and these are better than just treating with hydrocortisone. BTW try to only bathe them no more than every other day to prevent dryness and irritation.

Have you had him tested for Celiac Disease? It's the inability to process any grain gluten (which is in just about everything) and one of the symptoms is eczema. Several members of my family are Celiac. My niece had eczema especially bad until she was put on a gluten free diet. Now her skin is clear and beautiful. Worth checking out.... good luck.

My kids and i have eczema also, and there isnt a cure all for this. it's just something you have to deal with for the remainder of your life. If you begin using something to help it, you will end up having to use it forever because the second you stop using it, the eczema will come back with worse!! my advice is just to not use a medicine. Use oatmeal in the bath and aveeno lotion so sooth the itching.

the winnie the pooh cream the guy recommended below, it is just Vaseline (petroleum), same for aquaphor.. just expensive Vaseline. My daughter had eczema, and sometimes I get it too.... the best thing I have found is Cetaphil (recommended by her pediatrician). Use the soap and the lotion together, it is awesome, clears it all up in about two days. The hydro cortisone works too but takes longer. Try using the Cetaphil and the hydro cortisone together. Cetaphil is the only lotion that keep me from breaking out! I always recommend it to everyone!

You have to keep the skin hydrated, drink plenty of water, when itching occurs use over the counter oatmeal for baths, and hydrocortisone, if you can tolerate it good old vaseline is helpful
