I started going to a chiropractor for another reason and one time I woke up with a migraine, went to the chiropractor early that morning and by the time I left the chiropractic's office the migraine was gone. I would recommend seeing a chiropractor. Make sure they are reputable, the one I go to has a machine to correct the axis bone instead of using his hands. Do you homework to find a good one. I happened to have a friend that saw him. My husband saw another chiropractor before this one and that one I didn't connect with, he didn't seem like he really knew what he was doing, I am very happy with the one I have now.

My son has doctor authorization to have a snack about 10 in the morning while at home and school because it does seem to help to avoid the headaches that he usually gets by noon. But the meds are causing more than drowsiness. They also cause him to be more irritable and he is gaining weight quickly.

The medications my son takes have the same effect. Rather than a headache everyday, he now gets three or four a month that seem like they are all of them built up into one. This caused the doctor to increase his meds now he barely can wake up in the morning so that will have to be adjusted again.

My 9 year old began getting migraines about 7 months ago. The doctors say that his are caused by emotional stress. I try to keep him stress free (good luck with that) and he is currently on Amitriptylene and Imitrex. Ibuprofen wasn't working and he had to take it almost everyday which is bad for the liver which resulted in the medicine regimen. I'm considering counseling to help him cope with his stress. Other than that, a dark quiet room and a cool rag on his head while he attempts to sleep it off is the only home remedy I know of that doesn't sound totally crazy.

Susceptability to migraines tends to be genetic and I can sympathise with you as 2 of my 4 biological children appear to have inherited them from me. Krystal's are triggered by stress and eating tomato's. Dale's are triggered by emotional stress but we are yet to specifically find a chemical or bio-related trigger. Krystal is on permanent medication to attempt to prevent them. A drug called sandemigran. To prevent the full blown, on onset of one she uses emigran nasal spray and aspalgin. The reason for Krystals medication regimen is due to them progressing into hemipleigic migraines causing paralysis and ceaseless vomiting. Dale on the other hand, when he vomits it signifies the end of his migraine. Chemicals used environmentally such as fragrances and sanitisers can be an issue. So can the pesticide and herbicide residues used on "fresh" fruit and vegetables. An allergy test known as a RASP test may help to find if it is actually triggered by a food allergy or a series of tests performed by a qualified allergist could also find potential chemical's that may trigger these in your child. I really do empathise with you.

Do you know the cause of the migraines? Have you considered switching to green non-toxic cleaners? I know switching made a huge difference for me. The use of green cleaners in our home also helped with my son's asthma and my daughters skin issues. If you would like to know more about the products I use in my home you can contact me at megan_richert@yahoo.com
When I used to get migraines I used zone therapy. You can google it to find out more. I hope you find something that helps.
Have a wonderful day! Megan
