Ok so my son is 11 weeks old and the last few days he has started to eat every 2 hours. He is formula fed so he shouldn't be eating that much.

Would you give him baby cereal??

no cereal. just more often feedings. he's growing. there is no "should" be eating this much or that much. when they're hungry, feed them. cereal now will only give him digestion problems later in life. his belly isn't ready to digest it yet.

No, he's going through a growth spurt. Feed him more frequently don't give him cereal.

My son was alllwaayyysss hungry! I had to give him a little cereal early because I felt bad the he was always so hungry. He did just fine with it. I gave him a little at first just to make sure he could handle it. I say give it a try and see how he responds. Goodluck!

You will hear a huge amount of conflict on this.I say ,use your own judgement. I gave my kids cereal earlier than the pediatrician said. When I thought they were ready. My son earlier than my daughter because he had a huge appetite as he was a big baby. Not fat, just big.He had a toothat 1 month old and a bunch by 6 mos.

Hi Lorie, I had to put a couple of my kids on rice early because they where greedy babies. All my babies where also formula fed, I feel that some babies can handle the food earlier than others :) When I had my oldest daughter who is now 21 we started them on rice at 6 weeks old, Then they changed the age to 11 weeks then to 4 months, I personally believe its up to the baby itself, They will tell you when they are ready :)

My little boy is formula fed (5mths old) and he always ate more than the recomended amount on the side of the tin, usually ate the same as the next age group if that makes sense. I always let him guide me. But between 10-12wks he ate like a horse when he was going thru a growth spurt. Then he went back to normal after that.

I wouldn't be too concerned, if bubs is hungry he needs to eat and is probably about to go thru a growth spurt. Plus, my clinic nurse told me that babies are the same as adults, some have big appetites and some have small.

Why are people so bent on feeding their tiny infants cereal??? I truly don't get it! Cereal is not going to give him what he needs to grow. Ask yourself what's more important here: your baby being full, or your baby having the necessary nutrition. he's growing and needs formula. If he's eating every 2 hours, it's not a big deal. Growth spurts make people eat more. Add more formula to the bottle and he might eat less frequently.

I wouldn't. How much is he having in 24 hours. Maybe you just need to feed him more per feeding so he is full longer. According to Similac:

2-3 months, 5-6 feedings, 5-6 ounces each, 25-36 ounces in 24 hours

3-4 months, 4-5 feedings, 6-7 ounces each, 24-35 ounces in 24 hours

Hope this helps.

Breast milk is digested fairly quickly and at around 12 weeks of age (give or take a week) they have a growth spurt and need to feed more often. Two hourly feeding is normal for a breast fed baby at this age.

When our son was 11 weeks old he ate every two hours. Why do you feel that's wrong? I would not give him cereal this early in life and I'm sure that your pediatrician would agree. If you're concerned you should talk to your son's pediatrician. Some babies eat a lot when they are going through growth spurts, which your baby is coming right up on a major one that takes place right around 3 months. How many ounces of formula are you offering each feeding? Maybe you need to offer 1 or 2 more ounces than you normally do. Either way you should feed your baby when he is hungry. Good luck!

I started feeding my oldest cereal in his milk at that age.He started getting baby food like fruit at 4 months. I know doctors tell you not to but he was hungry. His stomach digested just fine and he had no health problems. He is 21 now and perfectly healthy.

I would NOT give him cereal, he's tummy can't digest it at this point. My son was eating 4-6 oz every 2-3hrs at one point too. As long as he is going to the bathroom and doesn't seem out of the ordinary. He is more then likely going through a growth spurt. But if you are concern, I would call your doctor or nurse.

I think each mother knows their baby best. I started adding cereal to my oldest at 2mos. It didn't promote weight issues. He is now 11 stands 5' 6" and weighs 94lbs. He plays baseball 9mos out of the year and Football 2mos.

My middle son started taking cereal at 6mos and is just as active. He had issues when he was a baby with his formula and was lactose intolerent so it took a long while to feed him during the day.

My youngest didn't start cereal till he was almost 9mos, but had alot of health issues and that played a big factor into his eating habits.

Trust your instincts. My doctor told me when they were taking an 8oz bottle every two hours they were ready for cereal.

just feed him more there is nothing wrong with giving more formula but i would say at 11 weeks i wouldnt start baby cereal until he is 3 months the earliest thats when our dr told us to start with our son but there isnt anything wrong at all with more formula maybe up his oz by 2 when you feed him

My pediatrician said it was okay to add a little rice cereal to my daughter's bottles because she wanted to eat every two hours too, she also was spitting up a lot. It worked well and she was a little younger than your little guy. I trust my kid's doctor he is wonderful.

I would try increasing the amount he's eating at a time before trying anything else. 11 wks is perfect time for a growth spurt and also starting a "snacking" behaviour to compensate is very common. Try making him wait a little bit each time before you offer a bottle, then slowly increase the amount per ounce as well. That will give him what he needs to sustain him longer. This sounds very similar to what a breast fed baby does at this age, by increasing mom's supply they "snack" during a growth spurt.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! he is going through a growth period .. just up is oz intake for his bottles instead so if hes drinking 4 oz give him 5 per bottle dont give him cereal til hes 6 months old

I agree with Amanda. He is going through a growth spurt. My son did this every couple a months or so. Even now at 4 he normally only eats a couple bits of food. But when he is going through a growth spurt he might eat a whole meal. Just see if he will take more at a feeding. He will settle back down on the feedings soon. I know it seems like it never ends, give he a week or so than talk to his dr. Good luck.

my daughter was wanting more of a bottle but introduced water round 8 weeks old it gives them more of a full feeling so he wont snack at all just try some water after each feed if he is still hungry !

why shouldn't he be eating that much? He is growing and hungry. Feed him. Also he is a boy, the do tend to eat more. I would feed him more formula i think vs adding cereal.

Do NOT add cereal to your sons bottle! Unless prescribed by a doctor for medical reasons (acid reflux) never add cereal to bottles, it is a choking harzard, and promots weight issues. If your son is feeding more, then add another oz or two to his feedings. 3 months is a major growth spurt time, and that is prob why he is feeding a bit more then normal.

Hi, My son is 8 month old now & not doing that no more but he used too.

It's called SNACK FEEDING & it happens to mums who are breast feeding as well.

The best thing i did was instead of feeding him every 1hr or 2hrs like he wanted me too, I make him wait 15-20mins then give it to him then make it abit longer each time so then in the end he broke out of his "SNACKING" habbit & started feeding every 4-5hrs. It took me afew weeks to get this routine to work & yes I no it's hard to listen to your little one cry specially when you no they are hungry but it is worth it in the end.

Means more rest & abit of extra free time while your bubby is sleeping longer...

I also put in a little bit of Farax in my son's bottle just so it made him abit more fuller.

You can also buy formula thickiner & thicker formula. Good-luck

Personally I wouldnt.

Could you speak to a maternal nurse or GP?

He could be going through a growth spurt.

Well if you listen to the pediatrician, they will tell you NO!! But you know your baby best as his mother. Adding in a little rice cereal to his formula will help him curve the hunger. You can also make a really soupy version of the rice cereal and spoon feed him. That will be a slow process because you will have to get it in his mouth and then wait for him to mull it around and eventually swallow it, but he will get better at it. I have 5 kids and its never the same with any of them but I had success with that for all of them. My boys constantly nursed and i had to start supplementing at an early age because they were just hungry. Hope this helps.
