my son will be 8 months on the 23 of this month. We have had problems with his bowels since he was about 1 month old, when he was 2 months we took him to vanderbuilt in nashville, to see a GI specialist, and they ran all sorts of test on him and figured out he is allergic to the protien in milk so they put him on some hypoallerginic formula. and they put him on laxs. he was getting 10ml a day EVERYday. and see before going down there he was already getting 4 oz of juice a day adult juice NOT diluted, and karo syrup in ALL bottles, and it didn't help....well once they got him on the lax. he did good for about 3-4 months and starting in oct, we started to have problems again. it was getting hard again, and there are times he sounds and looks like he is trying to poop, his face gets red and eyes water, but when i go to change him nothing is there. SO i began him on his laxatives again and started giving him prune juice, he got a jar of prunes every morning, and karo syrup in all bottles, and that STILL didn't help, well i called his doc in vanderbuilt and they told me to try an enema, well i did and it worked great he went good for about 1-2 weeks after that, it was almost like he had a small blockage and the enema helped get it out. well now he is not going good again, we gave him an enema like 4 days ago, he went a little after getting it, then he went almost 3 days without having one, and today he had a very small one and it was hard, so he got a suppository, yea well the suppository still hasn't done anything. I just dont know what to do....he get juice, karo syrup, laxatives, suppositories, enemas, prunes, i mean everything and NOTHING is doing the trick, has anyone else had this problem with their child? What was the problem, and what did they do for them? Im so frustrated that i can't fix it for my baby!!!

Fortified Rice Milk..swear by it. I had tried everything w/ my daughter until one of the daycare workers suggested this. It worked miracles for us!! After about a week or 2, things really turned around. We have had almost zero constipation since.

when my son was a year old he was so constipated, that when he pooed, they were round little balls with a little bit a blood, well the first time I saw this I took him right to the walk in clinic. The doctor told me he was most likly drinking to much milk ( 3% was the only thing I was giving him - no juice or water, just milk) She told me to start with more juices and this medication called Colace (stool softner) I am NOT a doctor, so check with him first. but it worked like a charm for us. It took a few days, but one drop every morning in his juice for about a month really worked. He has not been that constipated since.

Hope every thing works out for you.

My daughters are also 8 months and have had the same problems with constipation since they were about 1-2 months old. Their doctor said it was because of the iron in their formula. I've even had to do suppositories as well. Sometimes it's so bad, their bottom bleeds a little bit because the constipation has been so bad. What I do is give them white grape juice as their doctor told me to do, not diluted with water. I figured that I shouldn't water it down because their constipation gets so bad sometimes. I give them about 8 or more ounces a day. I asked their doctor if it was too much thaty I was giving them, and she said that if it's helping them go to the bathroom, then it isn't too much. I also found out that when I feed them carrots for some reason, it helps soften their stool a little bit. I hope this helps you! Stay positive. It was hard for me to because it got so bad that I had felt so helpless, but try the white grape juice. Let me know how it goes! I'd really like to see if your son feels better.

Have you tried goats milk? Forgot to mention that. I have a friend with a new baby and he had to be put on goats milk and it was almost a instant improvement. Might mention it to your Dr.

You said he has an allergy to protein in milk? Could he be accidently still be getting milk somehow? Is he off the btl now or have you switched milks? You might have him cked for other allergies. Could be something else in his diet. He also needs plenty of water for the bowels to work good. My neighbors daughter had a similar problem when she was young and she had to eat broccolli for breakfast with Mineral oil on in. Have you tried the mineral oil? Talk to your Dr. first of course to make sure this is o.k. with everything else you are giving him. I would say if it doesn't get better soon, I would ck into other allergies or perhaps get a second opinion. Good luck and don't give up. I have a 2 sick children myself and I know how frustrating it can be. My son now has a diagnosis and is doing much better on the right meds. My daughter is still sick and having different symptons quit often and we are still searching for answers. Just do what you can to help your child. I used to massage my sons stomach when he was crying while trying to have a movement. You can also do exercises with them throughout the day. Things like moving their legs while laying down. Good luck and remember you are a good Mom and are doing the best you can do.

I am so sorry for your frustration. Its hard being a mom, especially when you feel so helpless. Food seems to be the one thing we should have control over and we don't. I really don't have much to tell you, since my child has only minor problems that are usually solved with stewing organic prunes and pureeing them myself. It also seems that blueberries also make my son go. I have heard that babies on formula have a problem with constipation. You could try different kind of formula that is hypoallergenic or cow protein free. I know I am not telling you anything different, but I hope you find some peace. I especially hope that your baby is not constipated anymore. I know how much pain that can be.
