Sooooo after reading a bazillion articles on how to recognize sleep/ tired signs I am more confused than ever! Some people say any nap under 45mins actually does not count and makes a baby more tired??!! Others say if your baby wakes too early try putting them to bed later or in some cases that back fires. EVERYTHING seems to contradict itself and being a first time mother it can get confusing.
My baby sleeps from 7pm to 6:30am most nights with 1 feed anytime between 12am-4am. When he wakes at 6:30ish he is Mr.Chatterbox and talks forever until he gets whingy then I go in and offer his morning feed. He seems to get grumpy pretty quick (within 30mins) so i put him down for a nap and he usually sleeps for 45mins. He seems happy and alert when he wakes after this nap but seems to get bored or grumpy after another 15-30minutes. I keep THINKING he is BORED so I move him to another room, show him a new toy or take him for a walk. He lasts a little while then grizzles and wants to be picked up. i am wondering if these are actually TIRED SIGNS not him being bored??? If this is the case he keeps doing it all day long- how many naps does a baby at 14weeks old need? Yesterday he slept from 11:30-1:30pm (this is the longest nap he has ever had!) then 30 mins later when we were driving to go shopping he kept falling asleep and was a bit grumpy? I assumed after that long nap i could take him anywhere and he would be a happy little baby.
*ANY TIPS* on getting a baby to nap during the day and/ or recognizing tired signs would be appreciated:)
He has just been in his cot for 1 hour and the first 20 minutes he talked to himself then finally slept- now he is awake after only a 40 minute nap!
