My 8 month old son has come down with a cold the poor thing. He is really congested. Does any one have any suggestions on how to help him with the nasal congestion? I am using a warm hudimifier with Vicks vapo steam in it. I also let him cry for a few minutes as that seems to help him a bit, but any more tips would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Saline is the best. Also you can run a hot shower and sit in the bathroom with him breathing in the steam for a few minutes, which can help break up head and chest congestion.

Quoting melissa:

They have some bath stuff at Walmart. It's for cold and sinus's. Put some in his bath water and let him sit there for a few minutes in the warm bath and breath it in. works like a charm and it will help him sleep. It's over where the bath salts are at. It's in a clear bottle and its called Village Naturals Therapy. It's a liquid mineral bath for cold & sinus. I us it for my kids and I use it myself when I need it. Doesn't take much but it works. Hope he feels better soon.

I could not find the bath stuff but I found a rub that is all natural, hypo-allergenic and it works wonders. It is made by the same company. My neighbours tried it with their kids as they both have colds and they loved it too. Thank you for letting me know about this. My son is actually getting some sleep now :)

I agree with the saline, but please stay away from the Baby Rub on your childs neck and chest. It only makes their congestion work. If you get desperate, call the doc back and maybe they will give you their secret decongestant medication recommendations, You know they still work on kids, you just have to dose it correctly!

My pediatrician told me to get some plain saline spray and turn the bottle upside down so that you can use it as a dropper. Put 2 drops in each nostril and then use an aspirator to clean some of the junk out. Do that at least twice a day. Vicks also makes a Baby Rub that you can put on his chest and neck. Hope he feels better soon.
