Laura, she said she has had her period for 6 months straight. I would definately go to another doctor and find out something, that cannot be healthy. good luck!!

Laura, I nursed and I didn't have my period for well over a year after I had my daughter. So yea, it can take a while for cycles to get back to normal. If you're worried about it, Chelsey, then I would suggest you call your OBGYN in the morning and make an appointment ASAP.

I breastfed and I am quite certain I was 9 months after my first before I got my period...and like I said...baby's are exhausting...calm down and breath.

So I was a little worried about the paranoia on this thread and I googled it for you...

The timing is different for every woman, and there's a huge range in what's considered normal, depending on your body and circumstances. As a result, the time frames mentioned below are only approximate guidelines. If you're concerned, your health visitor can help evaluate your situation and make sure you're on track.

Breastfeeding mums: One benefit of breastfeeding is that it delays the return of your periods. As long as you're still breastfeeding day and night, it can take up to a year before you have to run to the chemist for tampons, suffer from premenstrual syndrome (PMS), or cope with period pain again. If you're lucky enough to have a baby who sleeps through the night from an early age, your periods will probably return sooner - typically in three to eight months. The same applies if you're supplementing with formula. In other words, the more often your baby feeds, the longer it may be before you get your periods again.

Bottlefeeding mums: If you're formula-feeding your baby, you might start menstruating again as soon as a month after delivering your baby, or it could take two to three months.

Have you been bleeding for six months??? Thats weird ti should just last at the most a good part of 6 weeks. Although have you tried to take some iron and calcium pills?

I had the exact same thing happen, except i had my period for about 4 months after i had my son, it was actually not my period, it turned put to be a massive infection that required a major dose of antibiotics over a long period of time. I am not saying this is what is the cause of urs, but it may be another alternative to check. hope all goes well

So your doctor is telling you that stress is causing you to have your period for 6 months? Geez - that would stress me out too! The amount of money that you've spent on feminine hygiene products alone, would've caused me to have an aneurysm! I would go back to my regular doctor and tell him that this can't be normal and to please do something. Don't leave until he does. Sometimes you have to get a little forceful with doctors when they ignore your problem. Bottom line - he probably doesn't know for sure what the problem is - he's just guessing. There's so much going on in your body right after you give birth, that nothing seems unusual. But you know your body best - take a stand. If he won't help you, maybe you could get a 2nd opinion.

forget the hospital! They are only interested in getting you through the next 24 hours LITERALLY... They don't look for "routine" issues. They only look for emergency type RIGHT NOW issues! Hubby cheated with an ex and brought home an STD I went to the ER 6 times and they NEVER diagnosed it... didn't ever even bother to have me undress much less look between my legs for the source of the problem. Went in for my annual pap and found it... didn't find Mikey who was about three weeks prenatal and I took the meds... nearly lost him because of it all. If the ER had even once checked me they would have found the STD but they were looking for short term solutions.

Go to an OB/GYN that you trust and have a good relationship with. If you don't have one ask around and find one! I went on CL in my town and asked if anyone knew of a GREAT OB/GYN in my town that took my insurance.. then I went and talked to him... turns out he got all those referrals because he really is awesome LOL! :) It could be the Depo too.. it KILLED me. Literally 18 months bleeding on it until I went off of it. Stress will do it but like you said it's just the bleeding making you stress out so I would rule that out...

You really need to go to the dr as Holly said. You're likely becoming anemic if it's been going on this long. Second, since this started 3 months after giving birth, it's possible you have retained placenta or something stuck causing this. They really need to make sure everything is as it should be and you don't have a uterine infection.

no...I think she's saying she still hasn't had a real period in the six months since she had the baby...and she thinks she might be pregnant.

are you breastfeeding?...It's been a while for me, but I think I remember my period didn't start for a LOOOONG time after my first was born...and having a baby is just plain exhausting.

Good Luck!

Hi Chelsey,

are you saying you have been bleeding for SIX MONTHS? I did that for awhile.. did you have normal periods before you got pregnant? When I was on Depo I bled for 18 months straight until I went off of it... HEAVY bleeding... I was good although I have PCOS so I dont have regular periods. After Mikey I started bleeding when he was five months old I started bleeding HEAVY HEAVY... to the point that I quit leaving my home! I would change my stuff and before I could arrive at a location I would have bled through! I went to my OB/GYN that had delivered Mikey. He put me on birth control pills and that was it. I went for a second opinion and the doctor said since I hadn't had a period in so long the lining of my uterus had built up (confirmed by ultrasound) it was 3 cm thick (apparently that is not ok...). The dr scheduled a D&C for me to clean out my uterus lining. It was for a week away, a Wednesday. On Sunday hubby convinced me to go to Wild Wings with him and my gal friend. I got there, went immediately and changed my stuff again. Half way through the meal I realized I had bled through again. We wound up going to the hospital that night after calling the dr. I was bleeding SO BAD they wound up doing the D&C on an emergency basis that night! They called in Surgical Staff for it it was so bad! That was around the first of May. I didn't have another period or any bleeding until Sept. I went back to him around the 10th of Sept and told him what was up. He wanted me to get some blood tests but I started so I left it alone. The day before Thanksgiving he did another D&C. After the first one he told me that getting preggo would give my uterus time to heal (yep, didn't sound right to me either) but I told him No because Mikey was SO YOUNG! After the one in Nov he put me on BC for Dec and Jan, Feb and March he had me on Chlomid to get me preggo nice and quick. Since I have PCOS getting preggo doesn't happen like it does for normal women. I got preggo in March, had Aiden on Nov 15 stopped bleeding by Dec 1 had a short period in Jan and am doing fine now...

I was so sick! The drs had me on iron pills I was eating steaks/hamburgers etc so rare they were nearly still alive trying to get my iron up!! I couldn't take good care of Mikey or my other kids because I was so sick! Mikey's first birthday was miserable! While waiting for hubby to unlock the front door I started dripping onto the front stoop an hour before guests arrived! It was THAT bad! So I totally understand where you are coming from and how miserable you are!!! I REALLY DO!!

You should REALLY go to an OB/GYN and ask them to check your uterus by U/S to make sure everything is ok and you aren't building up a lining! !! The D&C's weren't so bad (yes same procedure for an abortion but no baby). They put me to sleep both times and when I woke up I was a little sore. The first time I took two weeks to just lay around and heal from the procedure AND recuperate from bleeding so long. The second time I was back at work the next day. It depends on how bad you are feeling now and how good you can bounce back!

Oh, the second opinion dr (who I stayed with and delivered Aiden) said the BC pills would more than likely eventually get my hormones on a good balance and stop the bleeding but I didn't want to wait that long! I took them while waiting for the surgery both times. I took up to seven a day and only SLOWED the flow... but depending on your bleeding they may work for you...

Good luck, I really do feel for you and I hope you can get it fixed soon!
