Need help.... my daughter just turned 10. Her stepmom bought her 5-inch platform, leopard print shoes because my daughter said she liked them. (She's the one that introduced these kinds of things to my daughter in the first place.) If I say something, I'm the "prude" and it will just cause issues between us. However, I'm disgusted that she bought them because they look like street-walker shoes. How can she think this is okay and what should I do? If I say something, she will be offended that I criticized her gift. By the way, dad says nothing.... :( I would be so embarrassed to be out with my daughter wearing these.

Ick :P Where did she find that kind of shoes in a size that would fit a 10-year-old?!

I think I would tell your DD that the shoes are great for playing dress-up and she can wear them around the house, but they are not appropriate to wear out in public. Odds are she'll find them super uncomfortable anyway ;)

I really struggle with this issue, because my 10yo often wants to wear things I consider HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE (tops with spaghetti straps, mini-skirts, off-the-shoulder tops, leggings with a short top...), and how do you communicate "You can't wear that because you'll look like a prostitute" without at the same time communicating that it's okay to judge people's moral character based on what they're wearing? :S

Maybe one shoe could accidentally get misplaced? The other one wouldn't do her much good then, would it? ;-)

I agree with Sylvia; let her use them for dress up, but don't let her wear them outside of the house.

Im sure they don't match anything she wears so if she tries to wear them out, tell her they don't match.

step mom is a parental figure and I'm sure she only wanted them because she had them. my step daughter use to b like that. she would wear her hair like I did, b interested in things I was. not so much anymore cause she grew out of that phase.

just relax about it. this will pass. just let her wear the hoes around the house and maybe for Halloween. she can be a leopard !
