need advice with my teen runaway

It is coming up to nearly a year since my daughter who was 12 at the time, ran off during a temper tantrum. She has gone to live with my ex-husband who is revelling in the fact that this situation is hurting me, and is promoting her behaviour. She has not communicated in any way shape or form with me in the last year, and it is as if my child has died. She just up and disappeared from my life. She is 13 now, and i really need some advice. I have been to the police, they wont help me as she is "safe" with her father. I am not eligable for legal aid, and cannot afford a solicitor to start family court proceedings. Has anyone else experienced teen run away problems? How do i get her to talk to me again? Do i back off and let her come to me.... i need help, this is killing me :-(

You say she hasn't communicated with you... what attempts have you made to communicate with her? In the end, you can't force her to talk to you. I would probably seek some therapy, with the goal to try to get her involved as well, in the way of family therapy. She may be more open to communicating with you if she knows there is a therapist or facilitator there who will hear her side. I would also invite the father to join in the therapy. You obviously don't get along with him, but there has to be some kind of respectful communication if you want to successfully co-parent with him.
