Hi, I'm based in Bombay, India and looking to start a business wherein I can provide an educational program for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten kids. Phonics and reading programs are available a dime a dozen. I need to start somethig different that will grab eyeballs and get me a good response. Moms, pls tell me about some unique educational programs or even competitions like the spelling bee that I can start here in India that are popular in your part of the world. Any good idea is sure to get a good response. Thanks, I'm looking forward to loads of replies!!

Hi, You may get BabyFirstTV in your home? I'm Sharen Pearson, the host of Baby D.I.Y. on the network. I teach Mommy/Toddler/Preschool classes called Goof & Giggle. I am writing my lessons into a book which will be available soon. In the meantime, check out my DVD-Goof Juice My Sky. You could use that for your first year of classes with the Moms. I charge $10/class and they come for four weeks before I change themes and re-register. It is pretty good money and your own children can go with you, if you want to. See my web site at www.sharenpearson.com. Also, feel free to e-mail me anytime for ideas. If you would like to start Goof & Giggle, I am ready to franchise the first several sets of lessons.

Have you thought about doing a Montessori program? Early childhood Montessori education is amazing. The children learn practical life skills (pouring, cleaning, sorting and organizing) as well as follow a systematic, sequential approach to reading, learning the continents and oceans, counting, adding and subtracting, language skills and parts of speech. It's a holistic approach to educating the child. Most important, Montessori education emphasizes peace education and good stewardship of the world around us. Please consider this program. You will love it.

For toddlers and preschoolers I would recommend checking out www.mothergoosetime.com It is a great website and has a great educational program you can order. I have done it with my oldest and his friends and plan to do it again in the fall with my next son. Also a great website for encouraging reading and letter recognition is www.starfall.com. Some great beginning reading books is the BOB's Books series. Good luck!

The Kumon program (http://kumon.co.in/) is very unique. My son took Kumon math in the Philippines and my daughter is now in both Kumon reading and math in the U.S. We're very happy with the results. It was started in Japan 50+ years ago by Toru Kumon. It looks like there are Kumon centres in Delhi area, but not south (Mumbai), so maybe you will be successful with such a venture! Good luck!

Our school uses the Accelerated Reader program. Kids take a computerized reading test on the computer which identifies their reading level. Then they read books at their level and take a short computer test about the book they read. This is done in addition to their classroom reading program, and it allows the students to work at their own reading level.
