I first introduced the bottle to my baby when she was three weeks old. I had to go back to work. I tried to give her a bottle or expressed milk myself, but she wouldn't take it. To her, I was the bottle, and she didn't want anything else but the real thing from me. The trick I learned, was to have someone else feed her the bottle and I would leave the room or the house. It was pretty much drink or starve to her I guess, and she was hungry enough to drink. I was exclusive breastfeeding while we were at home, and she used the bottle while I was at work. There never seemed to be too much trouble with any nipple confusion. She did have a little trouble on Monday mornings with the first bottle of the week. I think it was because she was so used to breastfeeding all weekend. It never lasted long though and didn't cause the babysitter too much trouble. Oh yeah and I used Gerber bottles, the ones that come with the manual breast pump. They seemed to work pretty well, and the lids change to sippy cup lids later. I hope this helps any. Good Luck!

i started expressing straight away, and because of this i use both the breast and the bottle and my baby NEVER had nipple confusion, i was also told by a midwife that "nipple confusion' isnt really 'true' as all babies have the sucking reflex and once something is put in their mouth the sucking reflex is stimulated and whether or not its a breast nipple or a bottle nipple usually all babies will take to it IF they are hungry
but the sooner you introduce the bottle with breast milk or formular the sooner the child will have less issues later in life when the breast is taken away

I breastfeed my baby, but introduced a bottle at three weeks (with expressed milk) so that I can be more flexible with my time (and so that her daddy can feed her at bed time!) I am so greatful that I did this when she was little (but not newborn) as she never had "nipple confusion". I used Tommee Tippee's Closer to Nature as the teat (supposedly) looks and feels more like a breast. I worked well for us and we never had to try another make. Hope this helps and good luck!
