My daughter is fairly picky and doesn't like to try anything new or something that looks "different" from what she normally eats. Yesterday while visiting a museum, we ate lunch in their food court. We got her exactly what she asked for: chicken strips (which they cut up into bite-size pieces), potato smiley faces (which she's eaten at home before) and applesauce. After eating some of the applesauce and maybe 2 small bites of chicken and potato, she worked herself up so much about "making" herself eat it that she threw up at the table. My husband and I discussed it later and feel like we've failed her as parents for not figuring out how to correct this eating issue. She starts kindergarten in 2 weeks, and we're worried that this will happen at school and then she won't want to go. Please help!!!!

Is she too old for "Green Eggs & Ham" by Dr. Seuss to work? "Try it, try it and you may. Try it and you may, I say." works wonders with Robert, but he is younger.

You haven't failed. Being a parent is hard! And they all have different challenges. Have I failed because I can not get my son to stop peeing and pooping in his pants at age 4? Ok...maybe...

Being a mom of two picky eaters I understand your distress. I am wondering why she worked herself up into "making " herself eat, it sounds like she just wasn't hungry, or was she complaining about the food. We also found out that one of the picky eaters was allergic to certain food items and it was causing her some distress in eating them, like gluten, She was associating the upset tummy with the food. Good luck.
