Need help with bottle feeding 2 month old baby

My daughter has been formula fed since 1 month old - she was a terrible breastfeeder (constantly lost latch and would yank head back while still on the breast) and since we have switched to bottle feeding, it has got no better - every feed is a battle. She slurps, clicks, chokes, gulps down air and generally makes a real hash job of drinking her bottle - every feed eventually results in her screaming every time you offer her the bottle - the only reason she has continued to gain weight and stay healthy is because of my persistence and patience... but its starting to run out!

Things I have tried over the last month:

- Slower teast (she currently uses the slowest Philips AVENT teat)

- Different teats, I have a cupboard fun of teats, I dont know that there are anymore out there that I havent tried (and man that is an expensive business!)

- Warmer milk... and cooler milk

- Infacol in the bottle (helps babies bring up wind)

- Burping her everytime she fusses

- Sitting her up to drink

- Holding her feeds out to every 5 hours so she is really hungry

She had a slight posterior tongue tie that was cut at one month old, but made no real change to the way she fed.

If you have any ideas or tips, I would be really grateful!

Well I am please to say that I have changed to Dr Browns bottles made by Handicraft and she is like a different baby! We have been using them for a week and she still fusses every now and then, but will calm back down after a burp... Hoorray! Who knew that a bit of wind could upset a baby so much!!! I did go to the Doctor and he gave her some medication for reflux, but I didnt start it at the same time as the new bottles as then I wouldnt know which one had made the difference, so now the medicine can go down the sink, ya!

Still go to the Dr. My kids didn't spill when feeding or spit up much at all, still was reflux.

This sounds EXACTLY like my son, now 3. When he was born he was tongue tied, it got cut. Every feeding was an ordeal and I couldn't BF, so I switched to formula. Went to the dr over and over and FINALLY at 2 months of age he was diagnosed with acid reflux. He was given prevacid. It worked miracles. He was also switched to Similac Alimentum (he had a protein allergy-grew out of it, BTW). These things saved my life. He was born at 35 weeks so he was slightly premature. When my daughter came along 14 months later, guess what? SAME THING! She went on prevacid right away and got the Similac Alimentum, too. It worked like a charm.

Thanks Louise, yes, I think we are going to have to go see the doctor, unfortunately for her tho she has already showed signs that she has a dairy allergy and is on a hypoallergenic formula, so wont be able to get calcium from things like cheese and yoghurt and we cant change to a different formula... my son has the same intollerances at almost 3 and still has special formula on his breakfast and in milkshakes to get the goodies into him.

My daughter was the same and was quite unsettled every time it was feed time. She was a nightmare to feed by letting the milk pour out the side of her mouth rather than swollow it. She had no signs of reflux as she did not spit up or have a lot of wind or anything but she would scream alot during the day and life was unbearable. At 10 weeks I was at my wits end as she did not eat very much at all and at times refused to attempt to feed at all. I took her to the doctors and she perscribed Gaviscon powder that I added to her milk and things got better at 12 weeks however she was on baby rice which made a huge difference. This was on the advice of the doctor as my daughter just associated milk with pain and refused to drink it. Once she started solids she was a different child and I replaced the milk with dairy products so that she got enough calcium, I also gave her vitamin drops in her juice. My daughter did not enjoy milk at all and I tried all that were on the market and nothing really appeased her. Like you I spent a fortune on anti colic bottles and all sorts of teats with varying flows and shapes but nothing worked. I would take her to the doctors and see what they say because believe me there are things that can help you and it makes such a difference. Good luck

Would also like to add that she isnt a spilly baby and sleeps really well, so I am pretty sure that she doesnt have reflux.

And when she starts crying when offered the bottle I am pretty sure she is still hungry as she will scream for a bit and then start drinking again, the stop and start fussing or crying again...
