They've passed a law which requires ALL secondhand clothing stores to test childrens' products (ages 13 and below) for lead. These tests must be run by private labs and are very expensive. In turn, many of our thrift stores will be shutting their doors due to lack of funds for testing... This affects everyone with kids or shopping for kids!! Local makers of handmade items for children will be forced out of business because they can't afford the expensive testing, and you can even get in trouble for GIVING AWAY your child's used items!! This is bad for everyone involved!! The idea of the law is great, but there are some serious flaws that need to be addressed!! Please contact your congressman and do something to stop it before lots of small businesses are forced to give up and all our great secondhand stores are gone!!!!
Please get in touch with your congressman and ask them to review and make changes to this devastating law!!!
