If you can have a vaginal delivery, DO IT! I had a c-section and the recovery was awful! I didn't feel completely myself until around 4 months. My delivery was 26 hours long, and 23 of that was drug free. I had to have an emergency c-section, but I wish that I could have gone all of the way. You can totally go natural all the way if you are prepared.

I've had two totally natural deliveries. no pain med's or anything. the first was with a midwife in a hospital. That was a totally awesome experience. midwives are into natural pain releif. hot water bottles, foot and back massages, walking, rocking, or whatever makes you feel better. the other one was by a regular dr. if i had to choose i would go with a midwife that can deliver in the hospital. i understand that a c-section sounds so much easier but in the long run it is not.

I had my fraternal twins via c-section because my water broke at 34 weeks and my daughter was breach...I recovered very quickly but I do think that I recovered well because they were in the hospital for 3 weeks and had the luxury of recovering before they came home. I am pregnant now at 26 weeks with one little girl on the way and have the option to delivery vaginally which I am looking forward to. I must say it was hard not being able to hold the kids for a good 24 hours and was upset that I only got a glimpse of them before they were taken away with Daddy. I was afraid I wouldn't remember what they looked like but in the end it all worked out. I am looking forward to hopefully a natural birth this time...If you can do it without the c-section you will recover quicker with how quickly they kick you out these days.

Quoting Kendra:
When I was in labor with my son, I was in hard labor for almost 24 hours. But because my water had broke at 2 am, I had to deliver with 24 hours due to infection could get to the baby past that time. 1am next day came and I wasn't dilated enough, it was "time for C-section". I was so nervous, I was literally shaking about the whole thing. I expected a vaginal delivery. Now having a c-section, the after affects are awful! Embarrassing moments that you cannot control because of all the air that ended up in you from surgery. I honestly have told my friends, if you can avoid having a c-section... do. I don't know why anyone would elect to have a c-section unless there is a medical reason to have to have one. I'm now pregnant with my second child and because I had c-section with my first, I have to have c-section with this one. They don't do vaginal births after c-section where I live, unless I want to wait to go into labor, drive almost an hour away while in labor.... go thru all that labor pains again, then find out I have to have a c-section anyway because I didnt dilate fast enough.... nah... I'll just stay here in my home town, have the c-section and know I only have to deal with one type of pain this time. LOL
Good luck in whatever way you choose. Everyone is going to have a different opinion. :-)
You should check out the site www.ican-online.org/
It might be worth the hour long drive to have a birth that want, and can look back on and enjoy. I really reccomend you look at the site. You could do a homebirth too!

I had a c-section and I felt great! I do feel however, that they should never be a choice. They should be a necessity. It causes unneeded strain on your body. You uterus will never be as as strong as it used to be. Good Luck

Shanicka,
If there is no medical reason to have a C-Section don't. I have had both and by far had an easier time with the two I had natural...One the recovery time is so much shorter and far less painful and the cmplications are far less with a natural birth...With my C-Section they nicked my blatter and didn't know it so the infection moved to my blood stream and I was in a coma for 3 days 10 days after the birth. So no I would not have a C-Section unless you have no choose!!! I know this does not help with the fear but I dont want you to go into this blind....One piece of advice I can give you is during labor keep your eyes open and focused on any thing in the room it really helps b/c when you close your eyes during the labour pains thats all you focus on...Keep your eyes open!!! BTW Congratulations!!!! And I hope this helps with your decition

It's much better to have a vaginal delivery. For both the baby and yourself. I dont know why anyone would 'elect' to have major abdominal surgery. There are many health benefits to vaginally born babies. One example is that babies born via csection are 80% more likely to develop asthma than vaginally born babies.
