Newborn with tummy aches

I was wondering what to do my baby is 9 days old, he hasn't had a bowel movement in almost two days now, and I know his tummy hurts, I need advice on how to relieve his pain and discomfort, please and Thank you

My little guy is 6 weeks old..I've been using the Mylicon gas drops or Gripe Water if his gas is really bad.

I really hope that post about the cigarette smoke is a joke. Please don't even consider that one. :(

Ummm ok, SERIOUSLY???  CIGARETTE SMOKE???  ARE YOU NUTS???  I'm pretty good about holding back and not judging other Mom's decisions but REALLY???  With all the information we now know about how harmful second hand smoke is, I am dumbfounded that anyone would suggest actually blowing smoke directly at a baby...on purpose.  I smoke (never in the house...5 a day and counting down...I'm weaning myself) and I wouldn't even do that to my animals!  I'm not gonna say anymore on that one because I know me and I'll go to far.

All of the suggestions (except the obvious one) are great and I would just add that you can also lay your baby on his back with his legs facing you.  Then take his legs and move them in a "bicycle" motion.  This can help stimulate the bowels, if that is the problem.  Also, when you lay him in your lap and pat his back, try bouncing your knees a little...this might also help knock loose any gas.  If you are formula feeding I would also suggest Dr. Brown's bottles or any of the brands that "vent" the air out of the formula.  I used Dr. Brown's after having similar issues with my son and it solved our problem.  And one last thing, if you use powdered formula, don't shake it to mix it, use a spoon.  Shaking the formula makes really tiny bubbles that will cause gas.   The nutritionist at the pediatritian's office told me this, plus it's on the directions for the Dr. Brown's bottles.  Good luck and what a SWEET little boy you have!  Adorable!  I miss mine that young.

Are you breastfeeding? I found with my little guy that I was over producing my milk and he swollowed to much air because of it. Nursing only on one side at a time slowed my production and helped. Also nursing him so he sat in a upright position helped. Finally if you use the Mylicon, give it to him about a half an hour before he feeds. It takes some time to work and then preps his tummy for food. Otherwise hang in there, I know it's hard. Their little tummies take some time to develop, it won't last forever.

Might have to switch formulas if you are using one..If breast feeding stay away from foods that produce gas for you..Peppermint extract a drop in 4 oz of water works great.

Gripe water!!! Works wonders. It's the ONLY thing that would work for my daughter and it's all natural unlike mylicon drops

Try gently massaging the tummy in a clockwise direction....the same direction that the gut works in. Standing up with the baby's head on your shoulder, rythmically patting the back....
