My kids have 3 grandfather's. My dad is Pop-Pop Rick. Hubby's Dad is Poppy Lee. Hubby's step-dad is Poppy Jimmy.  My Hubby called his g-father Poppy as well.  I called mine Pop-Pop when I was little and as I got older it was Grand-dad.  Now to throw a few more at you my sister has her kids call the g-dathers Pop-Pop (last name).  A friend's kids call her dad Zada.   The grandmothers are: my mom and hubby's mom are mom-mom (first name) and Hubby's g-mother is Nonna.

We always called my grandpa "Buddy" and Grandma was "Grammy" so it was Grammy and Buddy! And my son also calls my mom Mimi so you don't have to live with grndma either.

There is always papa thats what my son calls his Pappy.

my daughter started calling my godfather "Pop-o" i thought it was so cute and it just kinda stuck.

I called my grandfather Paw Paw and the other one Grandaddy-i know not much better than grandpa! lol

and i have also heard peepaw, gramps, and my step nephew calls his Big Daddy. lol if you cant decide.. just wait and see what the baby starts calling him on her own.. and im sure whatever it is he will love. thats how kailey started with Pop-o. haha we tried to get her to say paw paw.

In my country we call them ABUELO and as many babies start speaking ,this word is something of a mouthful, so they call them BELLO which really means handsome, so maybe this could be an alternative, AITA which the inhabitants of the Basque country,in northern Spain call their dads.

Our Granddaughter calls us Gamma and Dadad.  My husband loves it..... and her and her little brother very much.  Our son-in-law's parents are Nanny Maisie and Dada (pronounced Dawda).  Works great for 'not-so-old' grandparents!

I would assume that granddaddy would be out of the question then? What about Papa (name) and Papa (name)? I dont see why they cant both be Papa.

My ex called his Grandfather, "grandpap" that is what all the grandkids and greatgrandkids call him.

How about using his name.  My kids call their grandparents papa frank of grammy sue.  So maybe have them call him something clever like "big frank" for example.  That is a tough one.  I am 33 and I am not sure that I would enjoy being called grandma just yet either.  Let me know how it turns out!!!

My little boy has 4 lots of grandparents... nana n poppy Bevan (my stepdad), yai yai and pa pou (greek), grandma and grand-dad (nice n easy) and grandma Jen (my step-mum) and Big G. My dad didnt want to be called grand-dad n we were kinda running out of other options. So Big G works well for us n my lil one could say it quite young. Hope that helps!

Also, if you look at my original post, I too had misread the question.  I said "your step dad" instead of "your husband".  Sorry...like I said, I misread.  See how that works?  We make a mistake, we apologize and then we MOVE ON.

My son has Grandaddy & Grandmother (my dad & mom), then there's Grandma & Grandpa (my boyfriend's mom & step dad) and then there's Grandpa & Miss Linda (my boyfriend's dad and step mom).  The first thing my boyfriend's step mom said when we told them I was pregnant is "I'm not Grandma!"  We thought she was joking so we tried using Grandma Linda...but then we got an email from  her where she signed her name in all caps LINDA.  Since I refuse to let my son call an adult by their first name only, I made it Miss Linda and that seems to be working.  Since your step dad is so young, might this work for him also?

I have always called my step-dad by his name, so my kids call him Papa ____. I think Papa doesnt sound as "old" as maybe he feels Grampa does ;)

When our first son ws born, we had that problem with my husband's mother. she didn't want to be "grandma" because that's what everyone (and i mean everyone) called her mother. when stuart was learning to talk and say names, my mom was me-ma and his dad was papa, but we couldn't get stuart to say nana or anything else. one day while at the dinner table, stuart pulled on her arm and kept saying "me me me me!" at first we couldn't figure out what he wanted, then we finally realized he was actually saying "mimi" which i believe is french for grandmother. he chose the name (nickname) himself. when your child id old enough, let him (her) pick a name for your husband. it just might turn out very interesting. none of us speak french or been to france or heard anyone else be called mimi.....

Me, my brother and sister call our dads dad grampi so my son now calls my dad the same thing! My husbands dad is called papa by all the grandchildren, you said that one is out, but grampi is a cute name!

my dads family side all the men have been called Poppa (pop-er) we love it and we have carryed on the tradition with my little one she loves her poppa and it's so cute my parents are young grandparents and oftern get mistaken for my daughters dad!!

Funny how something so simple can get so scrambled...  I too did have to read what you wrote twice... But it was then that I noticed you accidentally called the new baby on the way Beckie's child and not Grandchild... Simply a mistake.... you noticed it and corrected it right away!  Kudos to you for catching your mistake!! 

Too bad Beckie and others did not understand and lashed out at you...  For that I am sorry you were misunderstood and then called a "bad apple"  WOW didn't know people could be bad for simply making a gramatical error...

Watch your spelling and your words..... If placed in teh wrong order you too may be labled as a "bad apple".....

We have the same situation with my mom and her husband. My brother and I were long gone once they got together so I really have never called him my step dad. My kids call my mom grandma and they just call him by his first name... and that has worked for us! Before my first one was born my mom refused to be called grandma so we called her "G" until the baby came... Good Luck with whatever you decide and Congrats on becoming a Grandma & Step "Grandpa" !!!

My daughter calls her grandpa "opah", which is German for grandpa. At 15 months she can say this, and can't say any form of gramps, grandpa, etc - she thinks it is the best word! You could pick a word for grandfather from your heritage (German, French, Spanish)...or we know a lot of people that use things like Pops, Papa, etc. Something little ones can say easier is a lot of fun, too, as it is flattering to be one of the first people your grandchild can ask for :)

My firstborn couldn't say 'grandpa', she was too young, so we suggested just plain ol' "g". It stuck. Or you could just ask the baby when he/she's old enough.....you might get your own original nickname!  Good luck, and enjoy your newborn!

But my daughter is 3 years old and from the time she was 5months old shes been calling her Grandpa ( YAYA ) and its a cute name its not common either.. maybe he will like that .. and 4 grandma ... nannie .. mema.. 4 a grandma i expecially like mema ... so im not sure hope i was a help

Depending on your husbands' name, you may be able to use a variation of it for now.. ie - I go by my nickname, Sam,which is what my boyfriends' grandson used when he got old enough to talk.. I couldn't imagine being called Grammy at the age of 35,  so we settled on Sammy (Grammy Sammy), knowing that as the baby got older he could change it how he liked. 

To that same effect, my kids thought of my boyfriend as an extra dad, but in order to be sensitive to my ex's own role, instead of calling my bf David or Daddy (something that sometimes slipped), we combined them to be "Davey".

I always think sometimes it's just best to let the baby decide, when he/she is old enough he may just point at your husband and come up with his own word! I was "ya-ya" for years and years to kids i babysat from birth!

I am 48...my fiance is 35...my three year old grandaugher calls him Pippy (his name is Rus) ...a pippy is a 'soother' or 'pacifier'...she loves her Pippy and he loves her....and its really easy to say.

With so many "Grandparents" biological & steps (They have 8 living Grandmas at last count.) We go with what the girls and the individual are comfortable with. They do have a step-grandfather who is not comfortable being "Grandpa" at all so they just call him by his first name. The rest are a mix of Grand... & the first/last name of the individual. We use the last names for the great-grandparents. It helps me to keep them all straight.
