So I just found this site again today! Sorry, I would have loved to have responded earlier to your post, anyway, what worked for me was to let him go naked. There was nothing there to 'catch' his pee so he became very aware that his pee was coming. I watched him closely and as soon as he froze I took him to the toilet and told him he had to pee. I kept him naked all day for a few days then started wearing underwear and then pants. We would go back to being naked here and there till he totally got it and it took about one week to get him fully day time potty trained.

hallo. what works with my 3.5 year old is not givung him any water atleast 2 hours before bed. for some reason, it works differently with milk coz he can have milk anytime before bed and will not need to go for a pee. but if it's water or juice we have to do a pee stop atleast once in a night.
if he has to have fluids, try the milk.

My step daughter is almost four and still wets the bed most nights. I think her mom was trying to do the old wake em up to go thing for a while because she would wake durring the night in histeria. It was so nutty and we would have to get up and take her to the bathroom. She was always in this half awake trance and we would have to pysically place her on the toilet because she would just stand there and pee on the floor. Glad that's over. I can handle cleaning sheets way better than that.

She lets us put a dieper on her most nights but if she refuses than we don't press it. She takes a shower first thing every morning weather she has an accident or not so we aren't pointing out the problem. She will lie to us and tell us she didn't pee and we just let it slide because we don't want to hurt her ego.

My son was potty trained during daytime at 2 1/2 but unable to hold his urine through the night until recently, he is now 5 1/2. We also had tried the normal techniques to nighttime potty train without resorting to the bed alarms as adviced by our pediatrician. I believe that he is a very sound sleeper & that his bladder just wasn't developed enough to hold his urine through the night. The hard part is that pull ups just don't hold enough pee to get you through the night & I was having to wash sheets sometimes 2-3 times a week because of leaks. I share all this to encourage you however! It will happen when your child is capable. Be positive & encouraging as frustrating as it may be for you. It can also be frustrating for the child. My son was bothered by the fact that his sister, 1 1/2 years younger than him, was staying dry through the night & he wasn't. He has now been staying dry through the night with the occasional "accident" for 3 months. Don't be surprised if you go for a long streak & then have accidents for a period of time again. Encourage, encourage, encourage. I stopped using the word leaks also with him. I taught him that he was having an accident at night. That it meant his body was trying to learn how to hold his pee while he slept but not always able. I talked to him about sleeping so good that it was hard for him to wake up sometimes but that he had to keep trying but not to be upset if he had an accident, his bladder would get stronger. We also brought our faith into helping him by praying with him. Now, we have him go to the bathroom before he goes to sleep & try to limit his fluid intake a couple of hours before bedtime. Thankfully, his time has finally come! Yours will to.

alot of times thier bladder is not fully developed..so its just a matter of time til he grows out of it..in the mean time dont let him drink anything an hour be4 bedtime..they do have plastic covers for matresses so it doesnt get a mess..

Don't stress over it. My older son wet the bed every night until he started first grade, then it just stopped. My younger son is 6 and wets the bed every night. Our pediatrician told me that I could either let his body catch up with him or invest in a bed alarm that will sound when he starts to pee. However, the doctor assured me that it will wake up everybody in the house EXCEPT him! :) I let my son choose whether he wants to wear a Good Night or change his sheets every day. I know that it is difficult for him, so I try to make it as stress-less as possible. However at over $16 a package for Good Nights, I almost prefer washing sheets and PJ's every day. :)

How did you get your son potty trained? I've been trying to get my daughter into it, but at times it doesn't work. I would like to get her trained so she can start school on time, she's 3 right now. Do you have any advice?

Dont stress on it. Its natural for a lot of kids to wet the bed at night up until they r quiet older. With mine we use to pull ups at night or the pull ups that look like BIG KID underware. U can also do the plastic bed covers to protect ur bed and to save u time on cleaning . Make sure he knows its not his fault and theres nothing babyish about it. My daughter does great with a pull up by me letting her feel confident and comfortable with them. Dont get stressed over it and know that its completely normal. We have all been there-some of us still are:)

Have you tried lifting him out and putting him on a potty while he is still asleep, I used to do that with my son until his pull ups were dry every morning, its a bit arkward to do, trying to pull down P.J's and sit them down but it worked for me.

My son was very hard to wake in the middle of the night for nighttime training. When we would wake him, he would be standing next to the toilet swaying still asleep. We finally gave up and realized he's just a deep sleeper not ready for the whole nighttime thing yet. He's 7 and still in pull-ups (the big kid kind) at night. It's not so unusual for boys, especially, to have trouble at night. He has several friends who are in the same boat, so he doesn't feel bad when he has sleepovers. My daughter also has a friend who is the same way (she is 9). If you are really concerned, I'd say talk to your pediatrician. But many kids will mature at their own rate and eventually wake at night. I think the worst thing to do is stress about it.

Have you tried the pull-ups that look like underwear, I've seen them advertised more for older kids at sleep overs. I know it is normal for children to have difficultly making it overnight untill the age of 7 so you don't have anything to worry about. A great tip I got from a parenting mag for babies applies here: Make-up the bed with a waterproof pad, a fitted sheet and then another waterproof pad and fitted sheet. Then if the sheets need changed in the middle of the night you just take the top shhet and pad off and your done.

I thought my son was never going to get the hang of toilet training. We tried everything from the ping pong ball in the toilet, to a stars chart, to stamps, to rewards. But he eventually got it. Night time training shortly followed with the occasional wet bed sheets still.

I would try not giving your child anything to drink 1 hour before bed time. When you brush his teeth before bed get him to go to the toilet before he hops into bed.

If he isn't waking up at all. I would try picking him up out of bed and taking him to the toilet before you go, he may get upset with you but atleast give it a go. I would wait til he's asleep and put him in a pull-up just incase.

I would also invest in a waterproof matress protector. They are a great invention. Or you can buy a waterproof mat that lies on top of the sheet for you child to sleep on, they are made of cloth so can be washed if your child does have a accident.

Don't get worried as I'm sure it will come to him eventually, it will happen out of the blue. He will start waking up during the night, just give him some time and keep up the persistance

My daughter did the same thing., I tried everything, best worked was buying a plastic bed cover, and not letting her drink at list 2 hours before bed. They I also started to give her special things if she wore a pull up at night.

My daughter is the same way and turns 4 in a few weeks. I let her go to bed with underwear on, and when shes asleep I put a pull up on her and take her pee at least once during the night. My daughter doesn't really wake up when i take her, so takes a few minutes, but its enough and is starting to work.
