My doctor told me that you would have to stimulate your nipples for hours before it will be effective. The best way to jump start your labor is with sex. I was 41 weeks with my son and had to be induced.. Sex did not work for me.. With my twins.. sex did.. the trick is to have an orgasim during your partners ejaculation.. or to orgasim afterwards.. that is what triggered my labor.. didn't have the orgasim with my son. Oxytocin is what you need to trigger labor.. that is what is in the sperm... hints why it would take so long for the nipple stimulation to trigger enough oxytocin to help.

I think it can be fun to try it but it probably won't work because many of us continue breast feeding throughout our pregnancies to the full term. However, give it a try, it won't hurt.

It didn't work for me or my cousin. The only thing that seemed to get things going for me was a 12 mile walk around the mall. I was there for 3 hours. It was a long time, but it put me into labor that day.

I know they feeling of wanting to get it done and over with. Yet your baby has a different idea. I have had 4 labors all different in some way. I have done the Castor oil and orange juice early in the morning, and had held my baby that night. That happened 3 times for me. But it wont work if you and baby arent ready. So rest up and relax. Some thing that does help your body get ready is the lovely activity that helped you get pregnant,,. Good luck!

I have six children and tried to jumpstart labor with all and did try this. It DOES cause contractions but they don't keep going without the stimulation. But I heard tha if you do it every 15 minutes, it can work but you are looking at hours of stimulation!

My understanding is that you would need to do it (or have your husband do it?) for a really long time...Something like thirty minutes out of every hour.

Don't be in a hurry! Baby will come when baby is ready to come :)

Don't do this at home and alone unless your midwife or ob-gyn has checked your cervix and given you a thumbs up; it should be pretty darn soft and flat and ready to open or else things can get a bit complicated.

Good luck!

I have read that it only works if you do the stimulation for hours and hours. I don't think anyone I know has been successful doing that. All I know is that having sex works because an orgasm causes your uterus to contract. But the baby won't come until they are ready, no matter what! Good luck!

I tried everything and nothing works he or she will come when they are ready!! I went 13 days over the due date and if he wouldn't have come then they were gonna induce me.

I was told this would help too, but it didn't. I was 10 days overdue. I tried a lot of different things: nipple stimulation, sex, scrubbed floors went for a walk - nothing did it and my doctor had me scheduled for induction. The night after the doc saw me a friend recommended making a caster oil milkshake. Its nasty and I vomitted, but I also had a fast labor without pain meds after drinking it. There are side effects like dehydration and vomitting, but I thought it was worth it.

There are a thousand wives tales about how you can go into labor...when the time is right you will go into labor and deliver a healthy baby. No one can alter that time but God or the doctor (if you have to have a c-section). Hang in there. You have made it this far- 2 more weeks is not long at all. Good luck new mom!!

Quoting Tricia:

My dr. told me this could help also. My son is now 21mos old and I went into labor with him the day before I was scheduled to be induced, however it was a slow labor so while I was at the hospital I was able to sit in a warm bath and the nurses told me I should stimulate my nipples, it seemed weird but it did help get my contractions going a little bit stronger. Other things that may help are walking, as you probably know, and sex. I am 34wks with #2 right now and will be doing what I can to get labor going as soon as I am term! Good luck!

i like to walk but when i do i have false labor and back labor everytime and the whole time i walk.

what do i need to do as far as stimulating them just rub them?? this sounds so weird!! lol!! but im willing to try whatever it takes. what about castor oil?? my step sister went into labor with all four of her kids by drinking castor oil. have you ever heard of that??
