no tomatoes so what is for dinner?

My 8 year old will not eat any tomato products. No ketchup or pizza or lasagna. He has never had tomatoes since he finished baby food at 18 months and then he did not like the ones with tomato. We think it is an allergy, but it is definitely a severe food aversion. So what are some dishes we can make for the family? most all my recipes contain tomato.

Don't blame him. Tomatoes of today are not really what nature intended.

Many kids have this aversion. I think it is their own natural instincts kicking in

There are white sauces

And, one can be very very healthy never eating ketchup (mostly sugar and corn sryup) lasagna or pizza

Pizza too, I have seen with no red sauce... many different types of sauce

Google on the different types of sauces - your whole family might like the new taste

You can always make a white pizza for dinner. It's a crust, garlic on the bottom, cheese on the top and whatever else he likes on pizza.

My kids LOVE BBQ chicken, Steak, Roast, beef tips (stew meat) and noodles (egg noddles) with lipton beefy mushroom gravy, Tuna Noodle Casserole, Tacos

My 3 oldest boys will have nothing to do with tomatoes unless it is in Ketchup. Tomatoes are high in vitamin A, B, C and high in potassium, iron and fiber. The good news is all of these good things are found in other foods so if you're worried about the vitamin source no need to be to worried. Your children will get the same stuff from pretty much anything they eat. As far as other ideas for food instead of tomato based products- veggie or chicken Alfredo goes well around here. You can buy Alfredo sauce at wal-mart about the same as you would spaghetti sauce, a bag of any kind of noodles and a bag of the steam veggies from the freezer section. I do this quite often, it makes enough to go around the table twice (we have 8 at our table) and it's very cheap to make. I highly suggest potato rolls with it =)



As far as Ketchup foods such as hot dogs, burgers, fries etc...mustard is my husbands choice of condiments. He hates Ketchup to hehe.



Another good and cheap dish is brown hamburger and cream of mushroom soup. Brown the meat, pour in the soup it's also good to add bell peppers and onions if your family likes that and serve over white rice. You can experiment with it and add things such as finely cut broccoli (finely cut so it hides from the kids), corn, sweet peas etc.

If you are doing a pasta try a white Alfredo sauce or lemon-wine sauce. Or make plain for him. My daughter actually likes tomato sauce but once in a while she prefers pasta plain. Pizza can be done with a garlic-olive oil sauce
