OK I know there might be some mothers who agree or disagree with this..but I've seen baby girls like 3 weeks old with ears pierced but I think in my opinion that's too early..I got told they recommend 6months...and then I got told at least wait a year old before doing that, I want to get my daughters ears pierced like get her birth stones in which is month of FEB..so just wondering how young was your little one before you got their ears pierced?

I waited until she was old enough to ask me to have them done.

Funny story, she had just graduated from kindergarten class. She had asked to get her ears pierced, so as a "graduation" gift, her father and I took her to have them done. The girl that was piercing her ears explained to my daughter exactly what was going to happen. After my daughter had agreed that it was okay with her, the piercing girls held up the guns to my babies ear lobes, and told her to hold her breath and then they fired on the count of 3. I was waiting for her to cry, we all were. She just sat there and didn't move, she didn't make a sound. We asked her if she was alright, she still said nothing. Finally, her father leaned in, looked closely at her and then said, honey, you can breathe now! She was still holding her breath just as the ladies had asked her to!

That is one of my favorite memories, I'm glad to be able to share it!

It's her ears....I definitely think babies and toddlers are too young for that kind of decision. I grew up knowing that I could get my ears pierced when I turned 8. At this age, we know that children are at the "age of accountability" and have the capacity to make decisions like this (babies can't). Piercings should be done only when the child agrees to it...otherwise, it's just the parent making the decision because they think it's adorable. Personally, I don't find babies with pierced ears adorable....I'm actually put off by it.

I got my daughters ears done when she was 7 weeks old and I have had no problems with them, she had a little cry then went off to sleep, I was told the older that they are the harder it is to get them done as they don't like sitting still

I got my daughters ears pierced after her second round of shots. We have had no problems with them but now at 3, she likes to pull them out but her holes haven't been closing. if they close, i will let her ask for them when she gets older.

16yo....yes, you can moan, but my daughter participated in the final decision when the time arrived....she has since (she's now 40) expressed her appreciation of the clear boundaries and expectations outlined in our family. Her parenting is much the same 24 years later. She is the proud mother of 5!

I waited til my daughter was 15 months when I had hers done. Be sure to check where you live some states won't allow it until the child is older. I personally am glad I had it done when she was younger she doesn't mess with the earrings and she is almost 6 now.

I got my daughter's done when she was a little over a year old. Never really had a probelm other then they get dry if we don't remove them for bathtime but never any infections. She cryed for like 2 minutes people stopped and made a fuss about how cute she was and she was over it!! And i went to the piercing pagada at our mall. she loves showing off her earrings!!! Go for it she can always remove when she's older if she doesn't like them.

When they really started bugging me about it, I used it as a reward for something they achieved. For my older two it was tying their shoes. Hatte hasn't really asked yet. Thankfully :)

Piercing a baby's ears seems horrific to me. Why not wait and let them make the decision and deal with the pain when they can understand what's going on? It just doesn't make sense to me any other way.

hi.i got my daughters ears pierced when she was 3mths old, and i found it to be the best decision(for me).i got it done by a nurse at a chemist she put a cream on them to deaden the ear lopes and my daughter never felt a thing.if as a mother youre inclined to want to get them done i think the earlier the better...as at an earlier age they dont play with them and they have little hair to get taggled in them...i have a couple of friends who just got her daughters done at later ages and has had nothing but trouble with them as theyre more aware of them.i did get a little negative feedback from other mums...as alot of mum say it should be their decision to get them pierced..but i found we make other decision for them at an early age for example getting child christened,so what the difference..as i said it really is your decision but my girl is 2 now and ive never had any trouble with them..good luck..

As far as ear piercing goes, when I was working (as a nurse) the doctors reccomended that moms either do it shortly after birth or at least 3 years because if they are done right away babies tend to leave them alone and don't remeber what is was like before they were in. Whereas if you do it when they are 3months to 2 years they have a better chance of playing and pulling on them. I myself have two daughter and my husband told me I could not pierce their ears until they were old enough to deceide if they wanted them. I was a little anxious however and I took my daughters at the ages 4 and 5 over Spring Break to Myrtle Beach with my mom and sisers for a vacation. They kept asking to get their ears pierced and I gave in. So while my sister got her belly button pierce I let my daughters get their ears pierced. That night when we called home to say goodnight from Spring Break I let them break the ice to daddy. I figured he that way had a few days to get over it. I will never for get my daughtes little voice saying Daddy we got our ears pierced. And after a pause she said a least it was not our belly button!! Even though to this day if it is brought up he saysI let them behind his back he never really threw a fit.

i waited till my baby girl was 4 months. she should have her 4 months shots before getting them done. i wasnt born in the U.S. and they use to do it in the hospitals. so my mom got mine done when i was 2 months. it really should be how comfortable you are with how young your daughter is to get them done. my moms boss didnt let her oldest daughter get them until she was 8 years old.

I think you can eigther at 6 weeks or 6 months. I got my daughters done as soon as they said I could. The bigger they get the harder it is to get the second ear done. YES they cry but they forget a lot faster then the older kids do. But I truely don't remember what age (6wks or 6months) my daughter is now almost 15 Years.

Quoting Dominique:

I checked with my kids' pediatrician, and they said anytime after 2 months is fine. Most places won't do it before then (you have to show that your child has had their 2 month vaccinations).
As to the people posting their opinions about piercing your kids' ears...the question wasn't "What's your opinion on piercing baby's ears?" Mind your own business. If you don't like the idea, then don't get your kid's ears pierced and be quiet.

From Krysta:

I thought that this was a place where all moms could get together and discuss things, share opinions, and offer advice. The woman asked how long a mother should wait to have her daughters ears pierced. My opinion was to wait until the daughter is old enough to make her own choice. Therefore I ANSWERED her question with my opinion.

Everyone have their preference of timeframe for such an event. My daughter was 5yrs old when I got her ears pierced. Some would say I waited too long. But at 5yrs she understood not to touch them for a while. Baby's hands are all over the place and they are so sqirmish. Then you have to turn the earrings so off and keep the are clean with alcohol, that's alot for a baby to deal with. They dodn't want mommy palying around with their ears all of the time, lol.....Ultimately, the right time is when you are confortable.

I got both of my daughters ears pierced when they were 3 mnths old. I was told that they would be to young to mess with them while they were healing. Neither of them messed with them and never got infected. I got my ears pierced when I was 7 or 8 and they got so infected b/c i was staying with my aunt while my mother had surgery. I had to let them heal and do it again a long while down the road. I wished my mother would have had it done when I was younger!

I am one who also believes that getting their childs ears pierced is a personal decision as well. I have 2 girls & with my 1st I pierced her ears at the age of 8 because I didn't feel that she needed them & wanted to wait til she wanted them & til she was ready. However we did wait a few months before I gave in. Now with my newborn & THINK that I'm gonna do it once shes 2 or 3 months cus I was told to do it after there 1st vaccine shot.

I disagree with piercing your childs ears. This is something you're making her do and it's completely unneccesary. Why stop at piercings? Give her a tattoo while you're at it.

It hurts the child and there's a risk of infection. I think that it's much better to wait until your child is old enough to choose it for herself. It could be a great bonding experience for the both of you when she's 10 or so and wants her ears pierced. My daughter is 11 months old and her ears are not pierced. She doesn't need anything to make her more beautiful. She's perfect the way God made her!

We choose to wait until our girls are old enough to decide for themselves. We have a 3 1/2 yr old and a 1 1/2 yr old. The oldest started asking at the beginning of last week for her ears to be peirced so on Friday I took her thinking she would actually go through with it, but she did it and hasn't messed with them. I think it might be more dangerous for them to be done when they are babies and cannot understand not to mess with them. They might get ripped out on a blanket or take them out and eat them, then you have to worry about the pointed end of the ear ring being in the babies stomach.

I have two girls, the thirteen year old was four months old - I lied and said she was six months so that they would do it! The youngest one got hers done at four weeks old, another salon did it. Both of them were peirced by two people at the same time each with a peircing gun, so there was only one 'ouch'. I gave a bottle/nursed right away after to settle them a bit. The youngest barely even cried I think it was more realizing that these strangers were playing with her head etc. Neither of the girls have ever had an infection, red ears etc. nothing. Being young like that makes it easier to clean for those first weeks. I cleaned and turned earrings when I changed their diaper. It was just a part of them and they knew no different. I think at one year, they would play with them and fuss more with cleaning etc. Hope that helps!

I believe this should be between the parents and the pediatrician. We waited until the girls showed an interest in getting their ears pierced and then, the girls had to show they were responsible enough to take care of them. One daughter had hers pierced on her 11th birthday and is doing fine. The other daughter is now 11 and, although she would like to get her ears pierced, she can't remember to brush her hair, so we are waiting awhile.

My daughter was 3 weeks old. She cried for about 10 seconds when it was over. I have 3 step-daughters & only two of them have their ears pierced, they were ten @ the time their ears were pierced. I have tried taking my now 13 year old step-daughter three times & her own mother has tried taking her once & each time she chickens out because she can not stand the thought of needles. They have gone as far as putting the dots on her ear lobes & placing the piercing gun there as well. So I believe the earlier the better.

I just had my daughter's ears pierced about a month ago. She was 10.5 months old. I personally think that she was the perfect age. She hasn't messed with the earrings at all and she lets me clean them three times every day. I love how they look and I'm sure she will love them, when she gets older, too. My mom had my ears pierced when I was a little younger than a year and I'm glad she did.
