I had the Nova T put in after both of my boys and I absolutly love it!!! I haven't had any complications ever with mine. I like it because it's drug free, and birth control that I never have to think about until I am having it removed or replaced. I never could feel the strings, but my husband once asked what the "crunching" thing was in there. It made us laugh when we discovered what it was!!! I recommend it to everyone I know, since the people I know who have gotten Mirena all seem to have many complications with it. It's very similar to a PAP, and there is a little pinch, and some spotting, but if you haven't gotten your first post-partum period yet, it may bring it on. Good luck, and I hope you experience with it is as possitive as mine has been!!!!

I tried it...didn't care for it. The procedure was simple and fairly quick. Similar to a pap but a little more uncomfortable with pinching feeling when they insert it. The "strings" are like fishing line (stiffer) & they can "hang down" and you may feel little pricks/scratching which happened for me and it was unpleasant...my doc "tucked" my strings and trimmed them but that only helped for a while & they "fell" again. Then for me it fell out due to very heavy bleeding but I think that is pretty rare. I liked the Depo Provera shot much better but again, I was having problems that others may not experience. Most people I talk to like the shot most but your doctor would have to tell you which is best option for you or if there is any reason one is better than the other...I tried everything! I think all of those things vary by individual...what works for me, may not for you. I am not sure if that helps at all but I had no clue about the strings & pricking that COULD happen, not to say that it will.
