i had my DD in december and my doctor started me on a lose dose BC pill because i am BF. however, i have a hard time remembering to take the pill at the same time every day because it's been so long since i stopped taking it.

does anyone know if the nuvaring or mirena are safe while nursing? does anyone have either? why did you choose what you did? how much does it cost? do you have to go to the doc every month with the nuvaring?

i'm trying to figure out what i want to use that will be safe for DD and effective as well.

I have never had the Nuvaring but I don't think you have to go to the doctor every month for it, I'm pretty sure you just do it yourself. I have heard a lot of people like it. I have Mirena. I love it. I didn't really have any side effetcs, no decrease in sex drive, me or my boyfriend never feel it during sex and I still get periods when I should. I love not having to remeber something all the time or worrying about missing a pill. It is safe while nursing. My IUD was completly covered by my health care, but without it would have cost around $350.00

I just got my Mirena taken out.  I had it for a year and I nursed the whole time, which the doctors told me was fine to do.  The reason I got rid of it though was that the progesterone in it made me never want to have sex, and also caused me to spot almost constantly.  When I did have sex, I could feel it getting bumped around in there (forgive me if that is a little graphic) and I would always bleed afterwards.  It wasn't terrible, but after a year it was just too annoying for me.  If you are ok on the BC pill then you will probably not have the hormonal side effects that I did.  I know a bunch of girls who think it is the best birth control ever, but it just wasn't for me.
