Odor after Adenoidectomy?

my 22 month old son just had his Adenoids removed on Wed. Now instead of actually cutting them out. I guess they use a laser to shrink them.

When they brought him into the recovery room after the surgery I noticed a foul odor on his breath. I figured it was from the surgery, as I'm sure that the shrinking of flesh and the blood, would create a smell, and it would go away.

it has not gone away, but has actually gotten stronger, I have wiped his mouth out with a damp cloth.. brushed the back of his tongue and cheeks. There is no discharges from either nose or ears, and no swelling that I can see. and yet the smell persists.

I was wondering if any one else has observed the same effect from this surgery and what helped for getting rid of the odor.

Thank you

I would call the doctor right away. My college boyfriend had this happen after he had a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy when he was 21. The terrible smell was the result of quite a serious infection. He had no swelling or any other symptoms and allowed it to persist for a couple weeks before he finally sought treatment. He ended up on high level IV antibiotics for a week and then orally for another month. Not fun.
