i agree with these other ladies that the ultrasounds can be inaccurate and i would personally go with your gut feeling on this, maybe you could ask your doc for another scan to have a look if you wanted ? but if they hav overestimated they will probably put pressure on u to induce due to being overdue when in reality your bub might not be quite finished cooking :)

Ultra sounds and measurements can be wrong as they are operated by humans who make mistakes. I had a scan every 2 weeks in early pregnancy as I had had problems before and then I had a 20 week scan and again at 30 weeks. All along I was told the baby was huge as I expected but when I went for a scan at 34 weeks I was told she was small or average. They gave me an estimated weight of 6lb. No way! All my kids were huge and my daughter was estimated all the way through as being about 13lbs. I asked for another scan and 4 days later she was scanned again at 9lbs! At 35 weeks my daughter was born 9lb 3oz and 5 weeks early. I know the dates were wrong on these scans to because they put her as having been conceived on the first day of my period. No way! Not possible. So I think she was 3 weeks early not 5. If you are not happy ask for another scan.

If you're not paying for ultrasounds yourself or don't have pricey insurance, you're not going to get many.

with my first pregnancy I had so many ultrasounds I lost count. But it was because they couldn't ever get her heartbeat on the doppler so they had to use the ultrasound. with my son I only had 1 during the pregnancy and 1 when I went in to labor. that's it. why do you think your due date is off?

i'm with jodi on this one. why do you think the date is wrong? they always go by your last menstrual period, not the day you actually conceived which is app. 10-14 days after that.
every doctor is different, and every clinic is different. my first they didn't give me an ultrasound until i was 36 weeks because they couldn't tell if his head was down or not. my second they did one at 20 weeks, found a little problem with his umbilical cord so they did 2 more, and my third i went to a different clinic and they did one routinely at 7 weeks and at 20 weeks, and did 3D routinely the other ones didn't. normally one ultrasound at 20 weeks is the norm.

I've had 2 children & each time I only had 1 ultra sound.. At 20 weeks to find out the sex. Every other time I went to my midwife they just listen to the heartbeat. I think that is normal unless there are complications...

In addition to what everyone else has said, just keep in mind that ultrasounds aren't always accurate either. They rely on measurements of the baby (especially in the later stages). My daughter was a tiny baby (born full term at 5lb 2oz) and for months they tried to tell me my due date must be wrong because she was too small. But there was no way my due date was out by the 2 months they insisted, because I knew EXACTLY when I conceived, and I has a scan at 10 weeks (by my calculations) where the development indicated 10 weeks. She was just a small baby. And at 5 years old, she is still the smallest in her class. So to make a long story short, ultrasounds are not always accurate. If you have reasons to be absolutely positive about when you conceived, then stick with that. Just remember, however, that dates are calculated from your last menstrual period, not date you actually conceived.

Due dates aren't an exact science. They're at best an estimate, nothing more. They are determined either by the date of your last period, or by ultrasound. Do you know the date of your last period? If not, ultrasound is all they have to go on. With a healthy pregnancy, usually one ultrasound is all that's needed. They really don't know whether exposure to ultrasound has a negative impact on the baby, so the less exposure the better, unless there's medical need.

How many ultrasounds you have depends whether you are a public patient or seeing a private OB. I saw my OB every 4 weeks and he did an ultrasound every time - he just does it so you get to see your baby and find out how much they have grown and what they are doing - its not at all medically necessary.

In Australia public patients have 2 ultrasounds, one at 12-14 weeks and one at 18-20 weeks.

So I'm guessing you know your date of conception? How different is the due date they gave you from the ultrasound to the due date they worked out from your date of conception?

If you google it, there are calculators on the net where you can enter the conception date and it will work out your due date (its not exactly 40 weeks or 9 months its done by a number of days but I dont know how many days).

Ultrasounds work out your due date by measuring the baby from head to bottom and comparing it to the average size. This method is most accurate when used before 8 weeks as after that some babies are bigger and some are smaller. After 12 weeks it is very difficult to establish an accurate date from just an ultrasound.

Can you see your local doctor and ask him to refer you to an ultrasound clinic where they do obstetric dating scans? Maybe they can give you a second opinion.

Hope this helps.

When the mom is healthy and the baby is healthy normal one ultra sound is all they'll do maybe two. I had problems with all three of my pregnancies so had to have lots of ultra sounds.

If your healthy and so is the baby one is normal, most women I know only have 1 or 2 for the whole pregnancy. I have 6 but I started going into labor at 21 weeks so they kept checking on the baby to make sure he was ok, until I had him at 36 weeks. He's a healthly 9 month old now.

i had one early ultrasound because my cycle wasn't regular so i needed it for a due date, then i had my mid way one....they did a quick scan when i was in labour but only because they weren't sure if ds was head down or bum down :) so yes, if there's no problems, one ultrasound is normal...as for due dates, just make sure you're prepared for the earliest one just incase. good luck and early congrats!

I dont know about your due date because you dident realy explain.
but if you are heathly and so is baby 1 ultrasound is normal, somtimes you might have another around 39 to make sure baby is in a proper position.
