My husband and I would like to start trying for baby #2, and we'd like a girl. We already have the boy. Does anyone know any old wives tales for conveiving a girl? I know they're not based in science or anything, but there still could be some truth to them.

Ok, this is not just old wives tales it worked for us! You can actually look up the technique online. First off, male sperm are sprinters...so the shorter distance they need to travel the better...ie from behind. So, for a girl, being on your back is the way to go....the distance is longer....the boys get tired...the girl sperm are slower but will travel longer distances...also...now this is the part that sucks...do not orgasm.....if you do...it aids the sperm to get to the egg quicker...so who will make it faster? The boys of course LOL! I am currently pregnant (32 wks) with a girl,(second child...first was a boy) and we tried this technique...it did work. Look up the "Shettles Method" Good luck, I hope this helps!

When I got pregnant with my son, we used an ovulation kit and had sex the day I ovulated and 13 days later there was a positive pregnancy test. But the couple months before we used the test when we were trying I was tracking my cycle online and we were having sex too early based on that cycle. So I don't know. I wouldn't be sad if I had another boy (at least I have plenty of clothes!), we just want a girl to complete our family.

I heard ...
1. if the woman orgasms first that means you will have a girl
2. to have sex on even days of the month
so um yeah that is all what i heard... not sure if that's what worked for my husband and all but best of luck. :)

There is a fantastic book I would highly recommend called 'choose the sex of your baby - the natural way' by Hazel Chesterman-Phillips. This is the method that Yoon Fing alluded to that is tried and true, and substantiated scientifically, which involves timing your attempts with ovulation. And yes, for a girl the sperm need to be already waiting there when ovulation occurs, which means intercourse before you ovlulate, as the male sperm have died off while waiting, leaving the girl sperm to fertilise the egg, as they are slower but have more stamina. well if you want a girl they say to try as early as possible when you're ovulating... the "male" sperm actually swim faster but die quicker... where as "female" sperm live longer but not so fast.... as far as a old wives tale.. i heard eating fruits and tart things help with conceiving a girl...lol idk though.. good luck!!
