Please say this name aloud: Kaydence Sullivan

Does it flow nicely? Is it a mouthful? Does it merge too much together or is it ok? What are your thoughts please? :)

Thank you!

I do like Kaydence but with the traditional spelling. Cadence is feminine, Kaydence is not, altho' keep the "y" in Caydence and it's a beautiful and unique name. Then, think of all the nicknames the school kids will call her as she grows up. She'll of course get Cay, that's a given and Caydence is traditional enough that no one should or will think up less than nice nicknames. Kaydence is sort of off the wall and it immediately brings to mind kaydunce, at least to me when trying to think of nicknames.
My daughters name is Amy, simply because I wanted her to be able to spell it early and there's not too many nicknames for it; Ames, Amos Moses are what family calls her along with her middle name Amy Lynn. It also has a wonderful meaning. Amy is Love.
Her daughters name is Morgan Lynn. A strong Celtic name paired with all our middle names. She's called Little Mo or just Mo which suits her.
It's your call and yes, I do like Caydence Paige Sullivan far better than Amelia Chloe Sullivan. Caydence just seems to have the "right feeling" to it.

I don't mind the name kaydence, personally wouldn't use it because it sounds masculine to me with the 'Caden' base in it but it is a girls name and I like K names as well"
But with Sullivan I would worry. It sounds like kayden Sullivan IMO.
You have to really enunciate to say the full kaydence Sullivan properly.
Amelia isn't a fav of mine but it is a nice name and does sound much better with Sullivan IMO.

In the end, it's your daughter! And whatever name ou choose is your decision.
If you worry this pronunciation ruins the name for you then don't use it.youdont want to regret it for her whole unmarried life.
Then again, some women never marry and some do but keep their names so I do think it's good to pick names that sound good together.

I kind of wish I had thought about this when I named my son, Eric Hoffmann. Sometimes it comes out sounding like Eric Kauffman and I've had people over the phone ask me to clarify.
With the middle name it's fine, Eric Ryan hoffmann. But I rarely said just erichoffmann when pregnant with him.

So go with your gut. If you feel this is a deal breaker then go with Amelia. Or another name. If you really love it, then who cares what others think!

Nope. Not IMO. The 'ence sul' is too merged together.
I personally wouldn't put those names together.

I love it! She will get married someday and her last name may not flow with anything you choose for first and middle. Who cares. She will make the name special, not the other way around. Good luck and go with your gut. Don't overanalyze!

Sounds lovely! My only thought is that because the ending sound of the first name is the same as the beginning of the last name, people may think her name is just 'Kayden'. Best of luck!

I love the name Kaydence Sullivan. I think of music when I think of your little one (spelling is not an issue for bringing the imagery to mind for me). Keep it if your fond with it.
I've only known 1 little girl with the name and she was the most wonderful little girl I've ever.
Ameila is nice...but it doesn't bring the same imagery to mind that Kadence does.

Sounds to me that Toni has her own choice so we will let people who prefers old traditional names keep those names going as we continue with the names we prefer. Our name is what makes us different and why would you want your child to have the same name as alot others groing up.

Kaydence is a popular name here and I LOVE IT. Don't stress what other people say. I love my kids names and right now so do they but they each have a common and a not so common name and they have chosen their own nick names. Our son is Daemyan James and he goes by Dae, and our daughter is Jacquelyn Salem and goes by either Jac or Salem. She however does not go by Jackie just as I do not go by Jenny. Both were our personal choices.

Cadence is not a weird name. It's definitely a girl's name. It's not a common enough name that she would have to be "Kaydence S." all through school, but I've known 2 Cadences in my life.

I prefer Kaydence to Amelia. :)

And what is this about not naming your own kid what you want to name them? I think that's ludicrous. Yes, the kid has to live with the name for the rest of her life (unless she hates it so much that she changes it as an adult), but it's YOUR kid! Who cares what anyone else thinks? I know several kids with some very unique names and I've never once heard a negative comment about any of them. Your kid will become her name whatever name you choose. ♥

I think it sounds great! My daughter is Kadence so I like that name but I also think it goes nicely with the last name too.

ETA: I just read your post with the middle name too and I really like that too. I personally do not think it is a mouthful at all.

@ Toni, not everybody likes traditional names and its not as if she is naming her kid something super weird like some of the celebs these days.

Funny enough my best friend is pregnant and is naming her daughter Amelia!

I also like the spelling. i have too kids, Geno and Juliette. both not traditional names and not traditional spellings. Go with what you want to, it's your daughter and i'm sure she will love either name. I like Amelia too.

Sorry, it's not all about what YOU like, it's about how it sounds to other people, how you think a child will not just like it but DEAL with it 30 years from now. This is evidence by the fact that the poster initiated the conversation at all. There is a whole very interesting chapter in the book "Freakonomics" about naming and all that it signifies. Frankly, I've never heard of the word "cadence" (which makes me think of the marching rhymes that military folks use) as a name, spelled either with a C or a K, and used for a boy or a girl. Never. Better a Katherine than a Kaydence any day, any year, IMO. A name like Katherine or Margaret can beget dozens of nicknames, depending on the child's (and the parents') fancy, and still retain something of the dignity and polish of a dignified traditional name. But these are issues hashed out all day long at Nameberry.

I've never heard of a boy with the name Cadence (or Kaydence). It IS a girl name. Spelled the way you want it (Kaydence) to me does look more feminine than the traditional (though I still prefer the traditional). I think it's so hard to pick a name. It makes it even harder when people tell you they don't like the name you chose. We picked Benjamin and Natalie for our children's names. We had reasons for the names we chose, and even though they are traditional we heard about each name from someone who knew someone with it they didn't like, or was ugly, or whatever. Really? What matters most is that it is a name YOU and your husband like. Name her something you will be happy with because you will be saying it the rest of your life.

How about Suzanne Amelia Sullivan or Amelia Suzanne Sullivan? Or Chloe Suzanne Sullivan?
OR, you could pick up the nice little VAN in Sullivan...and make an echo, like this:
Vanessa Suzanne Sullivan.
Actually that name has two echoes...the VAN in Vanessa and Sullivan, and the AN sound in all three...I like. It's pleasing to the ear.

Oh, read through replies, realize Sullivan is last, not middle name, and this is for a girl. But my basic position holds. Give her a gender-specific name, at least one. I much prefer Amelia as it is traditional, not a fussy "yooneek" spelling, etc.

Toni - posted on 05/25/2012

Don't like. First name too non-traditional and "out there." If you want to name him Cadence, then do that. But even that is too trendy for my taste. And I'm ASSUMING this is for a boy. I could be wrong. So maybe one of the two names needs to be more gender-specific. Twenty or so years ago there were all these Chances. It's too much like that. Don't make up a name. Give your child a real name, not something you made up. What's wrong with Charles? Although Charles sort of runs into the Sullivan, with the S sound at the end of the first and the beginning of the second. And your last name plays into it. Hard to form a real opinion without that. Go to Nameberry. They will help you find something better.

When I was pregnant with my first child 33 years ago my husband and I decided because I loved unique names and he loved traditional names we would take turns naming our children. I was allowed to go first and we ended up having 8 children now ages 32 go 9 years old. So, for our first child, if we had a girl I wanted to name her Breck. My husband does NOT like unique names and wanted to use Rebecca (after the frontiersman Daniel Boone's wife)

In the end, my husband could not fathom using such a unique name so we "compromised" using a name I never liked and he did not either, Pamala (changing the spelling from the traditional Pamela) and using Breck as her middle name.

32 years later and I am so sorry I did not go with my gut and use the beautiful and unique Breck because none of us, my daughter, my husband or I, like her first name and she said many times she wished we would have used Breck for her first name.

I love you are looking at non-traditional names and spellings. I think the letter "K" at the beginning of a name is a much stronger visual effect than using the "C" which can be confusing to some less familiar with how letters are pronounced in the English language because "C" can also make the "S" sound. With such a diverse nation as ours it can be helpful to others to use the "K".

Also, when choosing a name you might consider the sound of the name. Kaydence is a much stronger and flowing sounding name than Amelia which is more separate sounds with a softness to it. These names will bring a different feel when they are said.

After our daughter was born we had 5 boys. When we had our 7th child it was my husband's turn to name our daughter but allowed me to choose the spelling. Once again, he choose a popular name but allowed me to choose the spelling so her name is K'Lyn. (By the way, our 13 year old hates this name because so many people call her Kaitlyn with a "t".but she loves the apostrophe and the capitol "L" so don't be afraid to explore other varieties of spelling and punctuation..

Thank you for reading and happy name hunting.

Just a thought here, after reading your post. I prefer Cadence to Amelia just as a name, but to me, I also feel that when people have a longer last name (Sullivan being 3 syllables), it's often better to balance them out with a shorter sounding first name (Cadence has 2 syllables, Amelia also has 3). The same vice versa when a person has a shorter name (Smith for example) to have a longer first name. This is just my own thought, personally I think Cadence Sullivan sounds far nicer than Amelia Sullivan.

We first came across the name somewhere on the internet and 'Kaydence' was the way it was spelt. As with most things in life, the way you first see something, is the way that looks 'right' to you...so 'Cadence' somehow doesn't look 'right' to us. :)

Hmm, it looks like we're going to have to go with the backup plan of Amelia Chloé Sullivan....causes less grief in my mind of the blend between 1st and last name lol BIG shame, especially to DH, but unfortunately it seems the way we'll have to go.

Just out of curiosity, why would you change the spelling of Cadence to Kaydence? Cadence means the rhythm of something, like the beat of music or the way a poem sounds.

Oh, I didn't realize that Sullivan was the last name, I thought it was the middle. I can see why the two "s"s are a concern, but if you really like the first name then just go for it. I don't think it's a deal-breaker.
