The sleep sack is ideal for kids who are "too old" to swaddle. My oldest was swaddled until she was several months old. Then we moved to a sleep sack. Now she's 6 and she has a winter sleep sack that is a lot like a sleeping back with arm holes. So much easier than sheets and blankets! My oldest has some sensory issues which is why swaddling and sleep sacks really help her to relax. She likes feeling secured. Nothing wrong with swaddling and sleep sacks!

I wish I had stuck with the swaddling for my daughter but she was my first and ... who knew??? For my son, I was ready to swaddle as long as possible but he decided at 4.5 months that he was done with it. First clue? When I would check on him a few hours after going to bed and he was 100% out of it like a mini-Houdini. :-) Your little one will let you know.

The first time my daughter rolled over onto her tummy and got "stuck" while being swaddled, we decided it was time to stop swaddling. We switched to a sleep sack and she LOVES it.

I think the baby will tell you when she doesn't want to be swaddled anymore. Mine did fine in the swaddle at the hospital and then when we got home I continued to swaddle. After a few days of being fine with it I go to get her after nap and she is out of the swaddle, her PJ pants and 1/2 of her diaper. She hasn't been in it since. :)

The Halo company also makes a sleep sack which is a wearable blanket that offers more room

I have learned with my other two that they will decide between 3-5 months that they don't want to be swaddled anymore. My daughter is 3 months and still loves it.
My cousin's little girl wanted to be swaddled until about 1 year. Obviously, you may have to move to blankets instead of the swaddler - for size issues.

As long as it works for you I think it is fine. Our daughter is 7 months old now and we still have to swaddle her at night for her to go to sleep. Our son was 10 months old when we stopped. He just grew out of needing that comfort and wanted more space. At some point she will probably show signs that she doesn't want to be swaddled or will escape the blanket then you will know.
