Our son will be two months tomorrow and since last thursday, he seems to be having a hard time going to the bathroom......crying and even sometimes screaming in what seems to be pain:( I have tried some karo syrup in his bottle but it's not working like I thought it would......we did switch from Similac formula to a Target brand that said it compared to Similac....could that be the problem or is it that I am slowly taking him off breastfeeding and hoping to get him on all formula before I go back to work in two weeks........any ideas?????? Please help!

Well it could be so many reasons, try a tiny bit of prune juice (just put 2 prunes in a pot of boiling water and just leave in there until the water goes a bit brown, about 20seconds), that worked on my baby. He got constipated alot so I changed my formula, personally I dont trust the Target brands although Im sure it works for some. After 4 attempts I found Nans Gold 2HA, that worked wonders. Good luck

oh and i saw another post prune juice is ok after 6 weeks, our health professionals have recommended it for Brianna since about 3 weeks so its fine to use at this age.

it is most likely the formula alot of babies have constipation on formula try 50 mills prune juice with 20 mills prune juice and feed him up to 30 mills of that per day. sorry im from australia so we only use mills, or you can get things from the chemist that soften stools. you can try masaging his lower tummy in a circular motion or a warm bath. if all else fails you can use a cotton tip with vaseline and it helps to loosen things up but prune juice is the most effective way

Poor baby! Formula can be constipating because it creates larger curds in the baby's stomach than human milk and its added iron is also constipating. It is also pretty difficult to poop when one is on his back. Try sitting him up when he seems to be straining. If he does poop and it causes severe discomfort, blood, or incredible adult like turds talke to the doc. about what the least constipating type fo formula might be. At his age I woudl not suggest Karo syrup, prune juice or anything like that until a medical professional has determined that it is indeed constipation.

Please help!      hi i had the very same problem wit my son i rang up the mid wives coz ha hadn't gone 4 like 10 days and they said once they hit about 8 to 12 weeks it is normal for them to be a little constipated any where from 3 days to 10 days as they're bowel habits are changing i know it's frustrating but try not to change the formula too often as it' will be hard for they're little digestive system to get used to it

Hi Chrissy

I too had problems with my baby with his formula, I tried 4 different ones before I found the proper one. He got constipation, then he got dirreha, it made me so upset but..... I wouldnt go for the target brand, try Nanns HA2 as that is what suited mine baby as this is for children with allergies but I didnt know if he had any or not but it worked on him and suited him and as it has better ingrediants. So dont despair as it all works out in the end. Good luck

could most likely be the formular...i used karicare when I got my lil one off breast milk and he was fine with it...u need to trial all the diffferent brands unfortunately and it could be costly to get teh whole tin...what u cna do is go to the different company website or give them a call and see if they can send out a sample pack to u...I have heard from many that s-26 dehydrates and leaves baby constipated...if ur child has alot of wind and often has tummy upset it may be the lactose so u might need to sitch to a soy base formular or goats milk formular...

hi, we'll first of all you are doing everything right and nothing wrong. I formula feed my kids and every little on goes through this. From time to time I switch up his formula and haven't had a problem with it, Similac says that their product doesn't make babies constipated...I call bullshit!

What I do is make my formula the way I always do but I also add about 1/2 an ounce maybe 1 ounce of pure water to the bottle. It works great, it might take a few hours to work through his system but it will work, His poop might be a little thinner or watery when he does poop. My son is 31/2 months and my other boy is 21/2 yrs and by adding a little more water hasn't harmed there nutrition at all.

good luck. Formula is so full of iron that it will do that, are you on iron pills as well? that will add to the constipation as well, through your breast milk. But don't quite if you are, I am not a doc.

When you make the formula you can add the extra water to that was well just add as much as you feel comfortable with, your doctor might say no but when your child is in pain we will do anything we can to help them out fast.

take care

Cyn.

could be with breast feeding and using formula at the same time take him to the doctors though just to be on the safe side.
