Overflowing Diaper...

Hi ladies! My 7 1/2 month old son likes to sleep on his belly, no matter what we do he flips! (He has even flipped over the positioner!) With that said, because he sleeps on his belly the front part of his diaper catches all of his urine and it has caused him to soak his PJ's and sheets. Does anyone seem to be dealing with the same issue? Any ideas as to how to stop this?

Thanks all!

Go to a medical supply store and buy reusable underpads. They're waterproof on the bottom, cloth on the top, and are large enough for baby to lay on completely. It won't help the wet clothes, but it'll definitely spare the sheets. I agree that a larger diaper won't help much-- you'll end up with leaks from different spots. But the overnight diapers are awesome as well.

Try the huggies overnights diapers!! They are awesome. Ever since I started using these My daughter has not once leaked through her diaper at night and she sleeps 12 hours straight. They start at a size 3 but even if you think they may be a little big - try them anyway - they are great.

as long as your using huggies, changin just before bed and changing when he wakes up nothing really you can do i dont think. our daughter gets continuous night feeds over 10 hours whle she sleeps, so as you can imagine her nappy is quite soaked thru in the morning. all i can do is change it as soon as i can when i wake her up at 8-8.30am

My son has never had a problem with an overflowing diaper. I always change his pants before he goes to sleep at night to prevent this problem. Also, I've always used Huggies since day 1, and I swear by them. Good luck!

Ladies, thank you all so much for the assistance. I think that I will try the overnight diapers first, and if those work than great, but if not than I will try the cloth diapers and rubber pants.
I love this site, you all are just so wonderful!

try huggies overnights. they are very absorbant and fixed that problem for us. you could also try putting plastic pants over the diaper or giving him a change during the night

I had the same issue, all we did was change diaper brands. We found that some diapers, if you go up a size, may actually leak more. Not all diapers are the same, so it may be a trial and error thing for a little bit.

i have heard using the next size up nappy works for sleeping in. We use oull on napppies now and we have had to go up one size more as they didnt do the size we wanted and we have noticed that he hasnt had a leaky nappy since. Just a suggestion. Take care.

Hey Amanda! When my son was about that age we had that problem too. I am not sure what type of diapers you use, Huggies definitely worked the best for us. I am not sure about the overnight diapers, they were either not out when he was a baby or I just did not think to try them. Also, I know this is a hard one, but if he is a good sleeper you could sneak in and change him half way through the night, no fun for you, but less laundry to do.

I was starting to get that problem, because once my son is asleep, he is sound asleep for around 7-8 hours. I had to go out and buy special nighttime diapers, that would be able to hold more.

I've been having the same problem. We switched to putting him in an overnight diaper at bedtime, Huggies and Pampers both make them. This helps most of the time.

LOL, my son had that issue until we started trying to potty train. Try limiting liquids before bedtime. I tried the bigger diaper, but that really just made it worse. It would gap between his crotch and legs, and all the pee (and whatever else was in there) would drain straight onto the sheets, leaving the diaper perfectly dry. You could also try just slipping one of those plastic diaper covers over the disposable diaper, just to contain leakage.

I also found upping the size of nappy at night time helped. I had a girl who would fidget and often leak. We found the non disposable nappies were more absorbent at night but harder to get a tight fit around the legs and stuff. The lady that suggested combining the two is a genius! :-) Another thing I've heard people try is putting the nappy on back to front, sounds daft I know but might be worth a try.

My daughter is much older now, nearly 3 1/2, but witholds both her bladder and bowels. It means her nappies simply can't cope when she does fall asleep and relax enough to empty her bladder. As you find it's wet PJs, bed sheets etc. Because of her size larger nappies aren't really an option now. We have to go in part way through the night and change her :-S

my six month old does the same thing!! She can only get comfy on her tummy! I just deal and change her when she wakes up and wash her sheets when they get wet. But she usually doesnt wet the sheets or anything, just a bit on her clothes.

As the old joke goes "When the diaper says 10 pounds, that's all it's gonna hold!" Given this child is definitely going to sleep on his belly no matter what you do, consider fabric diapers and plastic pants at night. They can be pretty hard to find nowadays but that would really help the situation.
I spent a little time with my browser and found this

Hope that helps!

My son overflowed his diaper too until we switched to night time diapers...no problems since.

I had this problem. When I put my son to bed I put a new diaper on him n lined it with a cloth diaper. If u bathe them regularly they dont get diaper rash. I kept a special bucket to rinse out the cloth diapers n used them only for bedtime. Now that he is older n bigger we use nighttime pull ups. No leaking diapers.

I had a girl first, so I had no idea which way it was supposed to point. I had leaks out the top and both legs before I realized I had to aim it, haha!

Hi Paige, it is definitely pointed down (that's been a major must-do from day 1!!) His diapers are the ones that are fit/made for his size and weight, but maybe a larger one would help a bit. Thanks!

My little man isn't that old yet, but he is a belly sleeper too. I usually just try to make sure his penis is pointing down when I put his diaper on and we haven't had any problems. If you're already doing that, maybe a different style of diaper or a larger size would work?
