Labour is such a funny thing. Everyones' is soo different and sometimes water breaks an you dont' go into labour. Sometimes it leaks alittle at a time. Sometimes it gushes out all at once or with a couple gushes. Sometime painful, other times not. Some woman still think they just peed themselves. With me it broke big gushes for about 4 hrs, Labour wasn't going anywhere. Tried being induced, still nothing and ended up with a c-section. Fine with me, healthy baby is the end result. My sister's water broke, labour wasn't going anywhere, induced and delivered a healthy baby girl naturally. My friend, wasn't sure her water was breaking, she just felt little tiny leaks here and there through out the day, no pains at all. After about 8 hrs of this (with only a couple leaks) she called hosp and was told too come in and deliveried naturally. All so very different.

Jennifer.....you don't have to go to the hospital the minute your water breaks. There is only cause to do this if you have a condition such as GBS where you need a certain amount of meds before you give birth. You're technically okay for 24 hours after your water breaks.

The doctor broke my water. I didn't have any pain with it just uncomfortable because of the pressure from the doctor breaking it. Its true the contractions went from not being so bad to being I want this baby out NOW lol.

The doctor had to break my water, but no pain. Just felt like I peed all over myself! Haha.

I was having mild contractions up to the time my water broke. The water breaking in a gush wasnt painful but the midwife did say after your water breaks the contractions become stronger and painful, more painful and yes i felt the contractions much more painful after my water broke about 15-20 mins after. From the time my water broke i was in labour 9hours before she was born.My labour happened quick and fast for first time around the midwife said,i went from nothing to 4cm in the space of 2hours.I had my waters leaking up to the moment she was born.I couldn't believe how much there was.I thought the first gush was it lol.

When my water broke with my first, i had no pain at all. Even when i was in labour for 11 hours, but had no pain at all... i know unbelievable... i just think, it all depends on a persons body. My sister have two children and with both of her children, she had no pain. And she gave normal birth. I think it all depends on a persons body.

thanks all, i was just glad at the time that i had put plastic under my mattress protector so saved my bed, i couldnt believe how much there was and at least it meant no false alarms as its a 45 min trip to the hospital.

My waters broke when I was asleep in bed with my first child, not painful at all, just very wet! The second time there was just a slow annoying leak until the midwife broke the bag - again no pain at all but it did make the contractions much stronger.

I had "the show", went back to bed and two hours later my waters broke, gushed! with no pain and I was 9 weeks early and had no pain at all for the following 3 days in hospital. In the end they had to induce me due to infection starting from loss of fluid around the baby. My daughter was born prem at only 1.5 kgs, very tiny but had no problems. Im pregnant again, 21 weeks now and very afraid it will happen again so early but Im taking precaution nesessary, two weekly check ups and loads of tests and lots of rest!

No pain with mine either. I had exactly the same as you - a pop and a gush. I felt some pressure before it happened, making me feel like I needed a pee, so I was actually on the toilet when it happened, LOL. I've never heard of it being painful. With my second child, I had to have mine broken by the OB, that was pretty uncomfortable, but not painful.

My water was broke both times and it didn't hurt. The hook they used to break it was uncomfortable but i didn't have any pain from the breaking itself. My contractions started within 30 minutes the first time and 5 minutes the second and they were 3 minutes apart...i had quick labors so that was honestly the most painful. You actually don't have to go to the hospital if you water breaks either. You can walk around right at home for up to 12 hours before needing to go in to see if you can start it on your own.
Congrats on your new baby! Welcome to motherhood!!!! It's a wonderful and rewarding ride!

Well my water had actually started leaking at 8 the night before.... but my doctor had told me not to worry because it was probably just wetness from being checked that morning. But I was right and I kept feeling pain throughout the night and never went to sleep then around 3:30 i went to the bathroom then came back to me and my husbands bedrooms and my water broke right then and right when that happened I had very intense pain I could barely talk to my husband after that I tried to go get my grandmother up but i got into the hallway and couldn't move....he had to wake my grandmother up and they had to help me into her van and we rushed to the hopsital and i had my son at 4:09pm 13 hours later.

It depends on where you are in labor, but you should call your doctor regardless, they'll probably want you to go to the hospital so they can monitor the baby to make sure they're isn't any complications and that labor progresses.

Go to the hospital. Call your doctor. When your water is broken you MUST go to the hospital, regardless of contractions.

I think it depends on where you are in your labor. It didn't hurt to have my water broken, but the contractions got much more intense.
