I PREFER pads wanna wear tampons but dont like the feeling there ! so i guess im useinf pads all the time! ... and by the end of mine i get itchy yes and i also get a rash ....what is up with this?

could be yeast. some of us are just prone to yeast infections. yogurt is good for getting rid or some of it. there are many otc yeast medications. when you get your period the amount of bacteria do tend to increase. lol that's actually how my husband got an infection in his testicles.

In most standard brands, they use harsh chemicals like bleach. Many react to that. Try a more natural brand, or cloth. Many woman use 100% cotton

I am the same way! I think it's just like being in a diaper when were not used to it. I don't like wearing tampons either not sure why but I only wear pads. I never seem to get infections either just really itchy, but I started changing the pads a little more often then I need to and it seems to help a little. Good Luck!

Hi! Have you looked into the yeast infections? It sounds like you have a ton of yeast in your gut. I am having the problem of anytime I eat anything that contains sugar, and this includes any carbs, starches, I break out in hives. My midwife was having the same problem.   I am now on Diflucan (it wipes out all the good and bad bacteria, so you ahve to make sure you are on a good probiotic, make sure it is refridgerated. I just bought one that is 12 billion strains, and dbl up on it even. You also have to cut out all sugars and starches. If you don't when you are done, the yeast is likely to come back.) Anyway, maybe you could check into this. It is hard to find a doc that agrees, but it's worth it.  Other forms of yeast, are jock itch, athletes foot, ring worm, cradle cap. etc. Google Candida, and you can get lots of good info on it. Plus, yeast gets passed back and forth, so you and hubby can be passing it back and forth even from just after using the bathroom, and kissing,etc.   Good luck!

i found that the stuf you use to put on your baby's bottom when he has nappy rash helps...

Also good pad that can breath and washing every time you change pads. If you cannot get to a bathroom Intimate wipe of baby wipes (wet wipes) is a good alternative to get yourself clean. some of the wipes can be flushed in the toilet so they are very handy.

The Diva cup mentioned is a great thing but if you aren't comfortable with that option you might consider washable organic cotton or hemp pads - the hemp ones are thinner (hemp absorbs 6x more than cotton) and hemp has natural antibacterial/antifungal properties. I found out about them when looking for cloth diapers for my kids and honestly it is not a big deal to wash them. You might switch to a less chemical laundry detergent as well like Charlies Soap (which is a detergent, not a soap). The real fabric feels so much better against your skin compared to a disposable pad and there are environmental benefits as well. Good luck.

Living in subtropical Australia, I found itching was always worse in summer. I gathered this was because the area was not getting a natural dry out - always wet due to period and sweat. I found a brand that uses a cotton top layer and I breathe more down there so the itchiness has decreased substanstially, and am more comfortable overall.

I get irritated too. Mine is more like diaper rash than anything. I use Desitin...yes, Desitin. It works great and smells great. (the cream kind)

Anyway, if you are allergic, you may want to try Benadryl to control the itching. It works on many different types of allergic reactions.

OMG...we could be twins!!! all the advice above is wonderful, trimming hair down there, helps it not get ripped out when you change the pads...the back of the pads acts like velcro...ouch!!

Take an acidolphilous tablet up to 4 per day orally and 3-4 over vaginally, over the course of the period and for a week after. Continue taking 1 a day orally forever afterwards. Bathe in warm water and vinegar and douche area...(irritation could be an undiagnosed case of vulvo vaginitis, which is an inflammation of the vulvo-masks itself sometimes as thrush) at night if you can air dry it...wear cotton knickers and if possible get cotton unscented pads. Do you have diabetes by any chance? cos that can make that time of month/ thrush much worse.

Yeast is out of balance. Eat lots of Activia Yogurt for a month, watch your sugar in take as while as bread. This should kick the itch. It's kind of strange you would develope and allergy all of the sudden.

Im just the opposite, I hate the bulkyness of pads and swear by tampons. So I really cant help you out, but maybe you are allergic to a chemical in the pads. Have you tried other brands? Or have you talked to the doc about it? There may be another hypo-allergenic brand you could try.

I use a diva cup, which is a small silicone cup you insert inside your vagina. It's soft and you fold it, tuck it in, and it pops open and catches the flow. They leak no more than tampons, and last forever - I've had the same one for nine years. After giving birth tampons got pushed out, and I can't abide pads for the same reasons you're stating.
Try the diva cup. It's great because the air doesn't get to the blood so it doesn't smell, and you just rinse it a couple of times a day and then wash it in boiling water and soap when your period is over. They come in two sizes, so be sure to get the post-pregnancy size. I got mine at a health food store.

change them everytime you go to the bathroom even if it isn't full, also get a squeeze bottle and rinse of your downstairs after you go to the wash room! i have the same problem when i wear pads... it helps if you can wear thinner ones as well

Hi try using always slender (regular) for teens make sure they arent scented or try pantiliners on your lighter days. Sit in a tub of warm water with nothing in it us women fell to realize that scents are to be worn on our clothing.lol. but, if all else fells Get on the depo shot I only bleed when I want too. For many people the side affects arent bad and for some they are try it and see what works let me know.

I used to have that problem too, but I find that it was the bacteria on the hairs causing the itching, so I actually remove all the hair from down there completely, using a cream, and I have had no issues since. It just seems fresher and cleaner. It was nothing to do with the pad in my case.

The suggestion of different pads seems like a good one. Worse case, you could try an absorbant organic cotton cloth pad.
Also, I know that many women whether using tampons or pads complain of itchiness during periods due to vulvar swelling that naturally happens during menstruation. Kind of like when you're pregnant and your belly itches because the skin is stretching a bit. People also tend to wash more during periods, which is a good idea but can cause dry skin temporarily. You could try an anti-itch cream to be used externally (assuming the itching is external) or some soothing lotion or oil.

Forgot to mention - at the health stores - they also carry a product that is a cup for menses. It's like a diaphragm, but cup shaped to fit around the cervix and catch menstrual flow - but then you'd want to be sure you're not allergic to what it's made of.

Yes, I have had reactions - and it doesn't matter if it's a brand name or a no-name product. We have no idea what kind of chemicals they use with these products that are supposed to "help" us.

Typically I use Always brand - it seems like that dry weave helps a little bit. I also buy pads and tampons from Community Natural Foods because they are made with 100% cotton - any health store would carry them. They are more expensive, but to me, it's worth it - I'm worth it! My health is worth it.

No that happens to me too. right at the end of my period I start itching a lot. I think it has something to do with being wet and maybe the pad too. I use vaseline petroleum jelly just a little or anti itching cream for that area that helps me.

In addition to changing your pads frequently, I have two more tips:

1 - During your period, use a peri bottle (the squirt bottle they give you after you have a baby, you can find them in the pharmacy, too) to wash yourself after using the bathroom to make sure you are getting as clean as possible.

2 - Take acidophilus or a pro-biotic all month long to ensure that your reproductive tract has the right kinds of good bacteria that keep infections and burning away.

I also used to have the same problem, but have tried many brands and finally felt one that does cause them problems, Also change your pad frequently which will cause less itching.

Have you tried cotton pads? If not, look for whatever brands make them. Make sure you change your pads often enough too.

Have you tried a different brand maybe or are the pads you getting scented?

I know scented ones can cause irritation.

You may have to keep trying different brands before you find ones that aren't irritating to you.
