I didn't get my period until after I stopped breastfeeding when she was 6 months old. Plus, not sure if anyone has mentioned this in the previous posts. The first period after you stop breastfeeding, it is SO HEAVY you may think you are hemorraging or something. No one warned me and I was scared. Thought I'd just pass that along to you just in case. Take care!

I had the 6 week post birth bleed, one week of nothing then at 7 weeks post birth had my first period. I was gutted as I was breast feeding. good thing we were careful too, didn't want another little one so soon!

It is different for everyone. If you are not breast feeding 4-8 weeks after to stop bleeding after delivery. I got mine around 4 months with my oldest and around 3 months with my 2nd son even though I was still nursing exclusively at the time with both boys. It was very irregular while I kept nursing (anywhere from 3-12 weeks apart)

Ok all you out there, my son is 15 months I stopped BF'ing in August it is now Mid to late October and I have not had a period.... Any ideas???

You should consult your OB-GYN.  You could be pregant, or it could be a sign that something is wrong.  It could also be nothing, but you need to know.

After deliveryI bleed for about 4 and a half weeks stopped for about 2 then bleed again its pretty quick after.. But everybody is different and it also depends if your breastfeeding or not. If you are it takes longer to get your period back...

Hey there. I think everyone is different from my discussions with other new Mums. I just got mine this week which was a hell of a fright, 9 months after my son was born and I'm still breastfeeding so I wasn't expecting it as I'd heard that you just don't get it till you stop feeding. However as I'm only doing 4-5 feeds a day now I suppose things have changed with my supply. Some of the girls I know have got theirs 4 months, 12 months or longer while breastfeeding. One thing I can say is that the first period is always a lot heavier. I think that the 'after delivery bleeding' is different to an actual menstrual cycle so I wouldn't really go on that advice. So you just never know as we're all different! My advice is always have something in stock coz you never know when you'll get that lovely surprise! Good luck.

Well I had mine right after the intial bleeding stopped from delivery. Then it was messed up a little until my body got used to the birth control again and I'm BF. I haven't had one seem the first month I started the pills. But if you BF some women can go the first six months without a period.

Not having the period while breast feeding doesn't stop women from getting pregnant, there is a strong chance.  It happened to me :)

And on my third child the period showed up a year after delivery.

i bled for about 2 weeks after i gave birth but my period didn't start til my baby was about 7 weeks old but it only lasts a day or 2. my baby is 11 weeks old now and i still breastfeed so i'm pretty sure that's why its so light though.

Cherish, if you are breastfeeding, it might take anywhere from a few weeks to a year or more to get your first postpartum period. I personally didn't get mine until my son was 14 months old.

Katie, sometimes it takes a while for your body to "gear up" again, so the first few postpartum cycles are not your typical ones. Maybe you are having one of those super long cycles this time. It is very possible to ovulate (and get pregnant) BEFORE you have your first period though.

It usually takes about 6 months. However, you ovulate BEFORE you start menstruating again, potentially leading to another pregnancy.

Bled for several weeks after mine... Had a c-section... Bleeding should be about the same whether you have a c-section or vaginal delivery from what I've heard. I'm breastfeeding and didn't get my period for the first 6 months, then it was a lot lighter than usual and only lasted a couple of days. That was 2 weeks ago so we'll see what happens next.

after the initial bleeding, which lasted for like 2 months (I'd start to heal then I'd do something stupid like lift heavy stuff), it took me about 4 months all together to start again. I know a lot of sources say that as long as you are breastfeeding you won't have one, but that's not true. I exclusively bf and I was able to get pregnant 6 months after having the baby....so just get on birth control before you start having sex again and you'll be safe.

I bled for about 2 weeks after delivery. I breastfed exclusively and did not use birth control. I didn't have a period for 9 months after delivery. That was about the time my daughter was eating more solids and not nursing as much.

I think after the inital bleeding after I had my son stopped, it was 6 weeks later that I had started my regular monthly. Every one is different. It all depends on how your body reacts.

Well, I bled immediatly even after my cesarean, with any birth I was told because your body was "cleaning out". After the initial bleeding, I didn't get my period until about a month or so after starting birth control, (started that six weeks post delivery). But, if you are breastfeeding, you may not get it right away. Everyone is different! One thing that stinks for me is my period is now WAY heavier, lasts longer, and hurts a lot more. Not trying to scare you since everyone is different, that is just what I have experienced.
