I had my son in December of 2009. My period started, just as before I hadmy son, on March 10, 2010. In April, my period did not arrive, so I took an at home test and it came back negative. I went on with my life. Since then, I have had mood swings, acne breakouts, oily skin, and increase discharge, just like when I wa pregnant with my son. Suggestions?

well im kind of curious what happened because im going through something similar right now.ive been on birth control for 2 months now after having my son and my first period was on time and normal but im already late now.i have taken a test that came back negative.should i quit taking the pills in case i am?

It can take awhile for your period to go back to normal. For some women it never does. I would def talk to your doctor to make sure that you don't have PCOS which can be common after child birth. Since I had my son in Nov 08 my periods have not been regular at all. My shortest cycle has been 14 days and my longest was around 62 days or so.I usually tend to skip periods or they are late.

It is very very common to get false negatives. Talk to your doctor. Mine was a hormone imbalance taht resolved naturally but I was on an anti depressant to help control my mood swings beause they were horrible. Unfortunantly now I am suffering from my first real period ever since having my son over a year ago and I'm miserable! But I also had an IUD inserted at my 6 week check up so I had to make sure that was still properly placed.

Thank you! I asked the same question on yahoo ansewrs and everyone who answered just said it was a negative test so I'm not pregnant. People here are more helpful!

First, with or without breastfeeding, it takes time to get back to normal following a pregnancy. It seems to take longer when you are breastfeeding. That being said, putting in a call to your doctor is probably a good idea.

You might want to ask your OB/GYN for some hormone labs. It could be an imbalance, or pregnancy that isn't registering on a home test.
