Periods while pregnant...

For those who think that they are getting their period while pregnant here are some sites to visit for information regarding bleeding durig pregnancy. A true period can only happen if you are not pregnant since the hormones and slothing of the endometrium that are required for a PERIOD cannot happen while you are pregnant without losing the pregnancy. However you can have vaginal bleeding during your pregnancy which may or may not be of concern depending on how heavy it is and other factors such as cramping etc. This bleeding is why many people think they had a 'period" while pregnant but medically speaking, it is not a menstual period.

I just had a friend that found out she was 5 months because she had been getting what she thought was her period. Imagine her surprise when she was told she was 5 months, not just 1. It apparently happens quite often, and all prenancies are different.

I had a "period" bleed with all three once after I was already pregnant. I Already knew i was pregnant though in my family you start throwing up about 2 days after fertilization :)

I had 2 episodes of light bleeding around the time I would have gotten my period for the first two months - I dont know if they were periods or not, but were obvious enough for me not to suspect pregnancy. I took a pregnancy test only because I was feeling sick and some bras I had only bought a few weeks earlier no longer fit! lol. I didn't think of it but a friend who was trying at the time and looking for signs in herself noticed.

In human development at uni, I remember learning something about periods during pregnancy being much more common than I realised, I think it was something like 20% we were told. But when I asked my OB about it, he said it was only like 5%. Either way, it does happen and does not effect the baby. I guess just look out for anything out of the ordinary, like fluid, or the bleeding becoming more heavy - but otherwise, it sounds like you might just be one of the unlucky ones that still gets a period! :)

I had my period up till 28 weeks with my first..I didn't find out I was pregnant with her till 32 weeks.

It's called decidual bleeding. Some of the lining of the uterus can be shed due to hormonal imbalance- in the parts of the uterus where the placenta is not firmly attached. If this is the case it usually does not affect the outcome of the pregnancy.

My aunt had period-like bleeding thru all 4 of her pregnancies. Totally normal for some women :)

What Kate said. Except I never had any bleeding with either of my pregnancies. Although, it is not your period you are experiencing. It's just bleeding because of something within the pregnancy.

Perfectly normal for many woman, it isnt actually a period, as that isnt possible once pregnant, but you are prob shedding some of your lining, which is actually ok. Id wait and not stress for what your doctor has to say since you have miscarried before by the sounds of it. You know what the symptoms of miscarriage is, so why stress if not needed.

I had routine bleeding with my daughter but nothing with this pregnancy. Some women experience this and it's totally normal for them. If it gets really heavy, you're passing tissue or clots, or you're getting cramps you need to see the doc ASAP.
